Suggestions for filling up my first MAC e/s quad

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to MAC (and this wonderful world of makeup), and I could really use some help choosing my very first MAC eyeshadows. My goal is to get an eyeshadow palette/compact that I can grab on a day to day basis and travel with easily. I have the 88 shadow palette (like the Coastal Scents one), so I feel like I have enough bright colors to experiment with for now. I'd like a highlight e/s, all-over color, and maybe 2 crease colors so that I can mix it up a bit.

Here's what I look like:

Skin tone: MAC NC15
Eye color: Medium golden/reddish brown
Hair: Light brown- sometimes it looks golden and sometimes it looks ashy. I also plan on getting highlights soon.

For the crease colors I was think that I would be good to have one that was matte and a satin or shimmer color. I'm kind of obsessed with purple eyeshadow right now, so I would love a gorgeous purple (one that's more on the warm side). For the other crease color, I'm really up for suggestions. I guess brown would be nice. For the all over lid color, I'd like to get a shimmer/satin gold or champagne color. Then the higlight color just needs to be lighter than my super fair skin.

Here are some of the shadows that I was contemplating:

Purple:
- Sketch
- Trax
- Beauty Marked

Brown:
- Soft Brown
- Espresso
- Soba
- Wedge

Gold:
- All That Glitters
- Honey Lust
- Honesty
- Ricepaper

Highlight:
- Crystal Avalanche
- Vapour
- Brule
- Blanc Type
- Phloof!
- Dazzlelight

If you have any different suggestions, feel free to tell me. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would say: all that glitters (lid), soft brown (crease), brule (highlight) for the daytime, & then beauty marked (to deepen your outer V for nighttime). :)

Not sure if you'd considered a nice taupe at all? Satin Taupe is such a staple and super versatile, I think everyone should own it!! Handwritten is a nice brown too, its a matte though.

Ricepaper is more highlight than gold, if you want a true gold try Goldmine or Gorgeous Gold from the perm line. The best highlighter on the planet has to be Next To Nothing - it was LE but if you can find it grab it, you wont regret it!! A lot of ladies also seem to like Shroom a lot as a highlight

I cant help you with purples, the only ones I really like are Casette and Parfait Armour, and Deep Purple piggie which I pressed for my palette. You should prob skip Beauty Marked - its a pain to use and its colour applied is ZERO similar to its appearance in the pot - dont bother with it unless you have a nice red base, one of the red chromalines, a red lip pencil also works (yes, I use Cherry!) or something similar.

I agree with the PP...Satin Taupe is a great color, and definitely a staple. Espresso is a nice crease color, and Sketch is one of my all-time favorite colors (although I like Sketch with Goldmine rather than Satin Taupe). My go-to highlight is Vanilla (I use the e/s and pigment both, but obviously the e/s would be what you want if you're looking for a palette.

), and I'm super pale too...it's a great, versatile color, and doesn't look chalky. I use it as a brow highlight, my inner corners, under my eyes, cheekbone highlight...I put that stuff everywhere. LOL

These are the colors I actually have in my quad (go-to for traveling) right now:

Trax
Espresso
Mulch
Nylon

I think these are great for mixing and matching. If you're looking for a purple, I am obsessed with Nocturnelle as a crease color.

shale - all over color or crease color

For purples, you could try shroom, beautiful iris, satellite dreams and nocturnelle! That is my favorite purple quad!

Mulch is an excellent color to choose. Also if you want something versatile if you are wearing blues, greens, I would go with club. vapour is my fave highlighter...but i think it might have been discontinued...

edit: none of these are discontinued, it was another highlighter I used to have...Shroom is a nice shade as well. I would add all of these to my quad since I could dress them up or down and have them handy just incase...ofcourse im very simple...

Thanks so much everyone!

Yes, I have considered Satin Taupe, but I've heard that it is very similar to the brown from the 'Sassy' HIP Duo Eyeshadow- which I already own.

I hadn't been thinking of Vanilla or Shroom because I think they were sold out until very recently. Now those are back on my maybe list.

I think I really need to go to the MAC counter to see the colors in person.
