I love the whole surfer lifestyle/look. I just can't get the hair and make up down to a t yet. Any advice/tips/pics?

I'd love to see someone replicate the pictures for a challenge. I need a summer look! Any one? xx

Hmm... How long is your hair? Is your hair thin or thick?

I love the beach hair waves, it looks messy yet neat? Products that promise you beach hair, dont work

. Your best bet would be a curling iron maybe a 3/4-1 1/4 inch barrel depending on how long your hair is, curl your hair loosely, there are a lot of tricks to different types of curls, but my best advice is to practice. When your curls are cooled down, run some moose into it and scrunch it up a bit, dont use too much moose. Then spray some shine onto it.

As for make up less is better! I would just wear pressed powder on my face with some nautral bronzer on my cheecks and t zone, with neutral eyeshadow such as woodwinked, and some soft pink or peach lipgloss.

If not i would just go to youtube.com and search for How to beach hair

I have searched all over google youtube and the rest. I have midlengh thick hair with a huge blonde streak down the fringe. I like the colour it's just inbtween growing it long. I have sprayed surf sprays into it while wet and dry and it just doesn't want to hold. I have woodwinked. The problem I'm finding is I LOVE make up (see eotd's) but I want the surf girl look (stereotypcially less make up)> Where's a happy medium? x

PS: Plz list some colours from mac eyeshadows you would suggest for the look I'm after...

I can suggest a lot of mac eyeshadows from the permanant line. the eyeshadows i choose arent vibrant or anything but i think they would be good for a day at the beach.

eyeshadows

Pink tones
Jest
Naked launch

Browns
Woodwinked
Satin taupe - good for crease too
Bronze or Mulch

Blues
Steamy
Deep truth - dark blue apply on the crease with a light hand

Greens
Juxt
Humid - dark green apply on crease with a light hand

Purple
Shale
Nockturnelle - Dark purple ..

Highlight
Shroom
nylon
retrospeck
You only need 1 from the three so choose your favorite when you get to the store

As for blushes TOO MANY!! I think you can take a look at..
-Refined bronze (a bronzer not blush)
-Sunbasque
-Dollymix
-Well dressed

imo marisa miller is the epitome of surfer girl beauty! She actually surfs too and I think she's a gorgeous model.

unfortunately I'm not much help as far as the m/u goes

but pursebuzz has a few vids about beachy hair u might want to check out if you haven't already:
YouTube - Beachy Hair
she also has other great hair vids. Personally, I like the zig-zag type waves for the beach, which can be achieved by using a triple barrel curling iron (mine is a conair one from the drugstore) or by braiding your hair all over while it's damp and letting it dry. Take the braids out and you should have cute crimped hair!

Real surfer or fake wanna-be surfer? I surf and so do all my friends and we surely don't hit the curling irons, mousse and MAC shadows before the beach. Infact, the real surfers are out at sunrise so they don't have to deal with the fakes and the tourists. The most we ever wear is some zinc-coate, waterproof eyeliner (MUFE) and lip balm, thats all folks. We all have shag haircuts or pony tails. In real life among surfers in Hawaii, there is no such thing as "beachy waves". I don't know anyone who surfs in a bikini. That's screaming,"cut me, I want reef rash".

Wanna be surfer! Lol! I've done it once in Cornwall and I loved it so much! Mind you, I got burnt in the wetsuit so right before my prom photos I had a lovely red face and matching red hands, and nothing else! I just love the 'beachy' look. The fresh faced girls you see who have tousled hair and look really summery! Lucky for you, you don't need to use the curling irons or mousse to get the surf hair, you get it when you go in the salt water. For those of us without a beach nearby, we'll have to make do with the hassle of it all!

I was thinking something similar, although I am not a surfer. IMHO the only "surfer girl" picture so far is the last one of Marisa Miller (with a board) where she appears to be wearing no makeup.

The other pictures to me are more of a "beach girl" look. Granted it somewhat a matter of semantics (you say to-mah-to, I say to-mae-to). However, it appears what you want is "sun-kissed" look: slightly bronzed cheeks and nude lips and eyes.

When I want what I call "beach crunchy" hair, I use a little bit of such-marketed product; currently, Kevin Murphy's Hair Resort is the product I am using for this. But my hair is fairly short now (extensions are shown in my profile photo and avatar), and I don't do this look very often because I feel like it's a bit too "dirty/unclean" looking and feeling for me.

The ocean is hell on hair. Not only is it dirty water (I've surfed past cruise ships and human doo doo) but the ocean is so salty it turns hair into shredded wheat, not pretty waves. Most of us wind up with short hair (the surfers). If you don't go out before sun up the sun will reflect off the ocean and destroy your skin leaving it like an iguana for life. I try my best not to look like a surfer, they look like homeless people with a longboard.
