OK now you all know I am an advocate of the fairtax. Well My hero Neil Boortz (only because he advocates the fairtax as well) flew up to Washington DC and talked to Senate Subcommittee of Federal Financial Management.
He was invited by Tom Coburn (R-OK) who is a senate sponser of the Fair tax.
Let me tell you ladies- I am already scared sh*tless.
Not by what Neil Boortz said but more about what else was being said.
First of all here is the Text of what Neil Said for his testimony:
http://boortz.com/more/092606_senate_testamony.html
The purpose of this testimony-how to close the tax gap. This is the difference between what people owe and what people actually pay.
The subject was: How do we get people to pay more of the taxes they already owe?
Here are some of the ideas on his website as to How to actually get people to pay more of the taxes they already owe.
Ladies start trembling NOW:
CREDIT CARD GROSS RECIEPTS REPORTING
WTH is that? You ask. This is an idea of getting the Credit Card companies to report to the IRS the amount of gross reciepts a business might rack up from customers using credit cards.
ENHANCES 3rd PARTY REPORTING
The gov't going to greater lengths trying to 3rd parties in financial transactions to make a report to the feds as to the details of the transaction.
CHANGING THE CURANCY EVERY FIVE YEARS
Yes this is the one you need to be most afraid of.
This will keep people from hoarding large amounts of cash or sending the cash overseas to work. Every 5 years the old cash will be updated and therefore need to be traded in for the new cash. If you come walking in with a huge amount of cash questions will be asked and reports will be made.
WITHHOLDING ON INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS
This has the gov't very upset. People who do not have taxes withheld by those who employ them are not reporting all of their earnings.
PROMOTE THE USE OF CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS
Point blank: these use a paper trail. A trail that the government can access to see if you are paying your Fair Share.
Lovely isn't it? But Why am I freaking out about this?
Let's talk about Tax Expendiature - or simply put-the money you get to keep when you get to enjoy certain tax breaks.
This phrase Tax Expendiature leads one to believe (or it implies) that the gov't owns all wealth but the government will expend some of its resources so that you can some of the benefits of your hard work.
Now here is the funny part: ALL OF THE ABOVE-is trying to make the AMERICAN TAX SYSTEM MORE SIMPLIFIED AND TRANSPARENT THAT EVEN SOMEONE WITH NO EDUCATION CAN UNDERSTAND IT.
And they want to do the above?
Under our current tax code-not only do people not understand concepts like tax gap, third party reporting, most people have no clue how much they make in their JOBS! (I take home a $5,000 paycheck) No honey thats not how much you make at your job. You really make $15,000. OR the best part they have no idea how much they pay in taxes! (I didn't have to pay taxes this year, instead I'm getting some back!) No honey your just getting the surplus of what you paid. You paid $10,000 in taxes and the government decided they owed you an extra $500
What this is all driving to is this:
IF THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TAX TRANSPARANCY THEY MUST BEGIN THE FAIR TAX.
This is how it would work:
You spend $100 on an item.
You get the sales reciept that says the retailer gets $77 and the government gets $23
You DO NOT HAVE TO UNDERSTAND what the hell the tax people are talking about to get the fair tax. You don't have to do any of the nonsensical amazingly controlling big brother-esque lifestyle as noted above (Currency etc) You spend money you get taxed. You don't spend money you don't get taxed.
It is NOT a hard concept.
But the government likes to make things more popular.
Boortz mentioned on the show-it's not in the notes- that he had after his talk a gentleman from an established economic country approach him gave him his card and was interested in this. He wouldn't tell us the country. I suspect it's Britain. He's had people from Brazil approach him on this.
Why are all these dignitaries more interested in this before the American Government is?
Simple.
WITH THE FAIR TAX ANY COUNTRY THAT ADOPTS IT WILL BECOME THE ECONOMIC HAVEN. Which means more jobs etc coming to the country.
If these countries beat the US they don't have to deal with taxes the jobs get more outsourced.
OK sorry off my soapbox
I just dont think the people of this country have any idea of what is going on in washington with our money. We work for it it's OURS. NOT THE GOVERNMENTS. And we just aren't interested enough to protect what is rightfully OURS.
Anyway. OK all done. Seriously. Thanks for letting me rant.
