i want to know what you guys use when you do your smokey eye....

i'm trying to get into a different combo of colors. actually.... i'm really trying to get into something different for my lid and the highlighter color on my brow. i typically always use dark soul or beauty marked in my crease

HOWEVER i did you get a little heavy with sketch once and it looked awesome. i used crystal on the lid but i didn't used a highlighter color because i didn't really have anything that would have looked right... BUT my smokey eye was more on the deep deep dark purple side..
anywho, tell me your suggestions or what you use

Oh man the possibilities are endless. Here are two of my favorites:

Blackground Paint Pot smudged all over lid
Mink and Sable on top of that
With Tarnish eyeliner and lots of black mascara. A friend discovered this at work and I thought it looked gorgeous!!!

OR

Smolder Smudged On Lid
Sharkskin S/S on outer v
Wedge or Cork in crease above v
phone number eyeliner on lash line
parrallel to bootblack liquid liner
With a bit of knight divine!

i'm still trying to master the smokey eye like I want it....I used gunmetal bluish shadows once and loved it....but I'm really trying to work out a nice greyish daytime smokey eye....just can't quite get it right

I think I tend to use smokey/dark eyes synonymously, and so what I would say for my "smokey eye" would be something like:

Perverted Pearl OR Silver Ring on the lid
Knight Divine in the crease
Carbon in the outer V
black liner on top & bottom lashlines, inner rims
black mascara

If I was doing something that I consider closer to the traditional smokey eye, I do this look by MissChievous.

i want to start getting into the greys for the same reason... i like the smokey eye and would love to wear it to work but i don't want to look like i'm on the way to the club and think greys would help that

i've seen that a lot of people use carbon for the smokey eye. i think i might have to get some but have you ever used dark soul (pigment) or beauty marked for your smokey eye???? those are the two i normally use but it seems like carbon is the "in-thing" lol!

My absolute favourite one is a little bit softer but still smokey. I use next to nothing with a light pinkish gold MUFE star powder on the lid with Smashbox's frame (matte purple) in the outer v and crease and just in the outer v I use smoking. For the highlight I use a light peachy gold eyeshadow from Clinique.

For a dark brown, I use smoking as the base with mulch over top of that all over my lid and then use by jupiter mes in the crease and the same highlight as above.

For a green smokey eye, I like using Smashbox's envy (shimmery black with multicoloured pearl) as the base with humid over top of that and the same highlight. I really love that colour whatever it is.

For a different green, I like using Smashbox's zoom (dupe for juxt) with humid in the outer v and crease and showstopper in the outer v with same highlight.

Another gold and smokey eye I love doing is using goldmode pigment with sunpower solar bits over that with mulch in the outer v and crease and showstopper in the outer v and same highlight. Sometimes I substitute cocomotion pigment for goldmode.

For a greyish smokey eye I use satin taupe on the lid with remotely grey in the crease and smoking in the outer v with the same highlight and maybe the light pinkish gold MUFE star powder.

It really is. It's so versatile it doesn't have to be for smokey eyes but it is really pretty.

okay...here's the brushes I use for my smokey eye....

a small shader for the lid (the one that comes with Loreal HIP piggies or CVS EoB eyeshadow brush)
an angle brush to define the crease (sonia kahuk's 266 dupe)
crease brush for color punches in the crease (EoB again)
blending brush to get the stuff all together like (sonia kashuk 225 dupe)

how's that sound? or should I switch it up?

that sounds pretty good to me. i had actually made a list of a few more brushes i need last week and i need that shorter blending brush for the eyes which i think is the 217??? i THINK that's the one i need. the angled brush i have is great for lining my inner crease but i think i need one specifically for the outer "V" ya know?

i just need to step my game up. ha!!

I don't have Dark Soul, but I do have Beauty Marked.
I use it occasionally to darken or smoke out the outer corners, but I've never used it for my smokey eye. I should try it sometime on top of a CCB... I bet that way the red glitter would stick, and it'd be something different than grey or black.
I do love Carbon though. For me, it's one of those "must have" shades. Here lately I use it daily for smudging over whatever liner I use, but it's also great for a lot of eye looks.

Oooh, My turn

Beginning:
Shape up and fill in eyebrows, set with powder
Concealer on browbone to help with brow shape
Prime lids (udpp/decrease)

Variation 1:
NYX black bean/HIP cream liner in black all over lid, to just below crease.
Line lower lashline and water line with black.
Darkest e/s color over where blackbean/cream liner is, blend/smoke/smudge out
Midtone color on crease, blend
Hilight, blend down into crease
Dot Hilight on inner corner

Variation 2:
Rim entire eye with dark eyeliner, smudge out
Place midtone color on outer corner, blend inward on lid, and into crease
Place darkest color on outer corner a lil bit inside midtone, blend edges
place lid color on rest of lid, blend into midtone color
Smoke out lower lashline with midtone color
Hilight, blend into midtone, and dot on inner corner

Finals:
Reline waterlines
Mascara

Blush, hilight
Nude/ red lip

My fav smokey eye of course is JUST carbon alone...but if you're looking for variation

Carbon on the lid, deep truth in the crease..or vice versa either way it's gorgeous...also I use a very close color to my skintone for a brow highlight when doing smokey eye (using blacks), because I feel like if it's too glittery/shimmery/too light it's TOO much..and for me that's restrospeck or lightshade

do you just put it in the crease and form that outer "v"???

I use a liner brush and line my whole eye with a thick line of carbon(on top and a little less underneath) and then I take a shader brush and just smoke it out really well...it's pretty simple but it's just gorgeous ...(I usually use some flase lashes with this look) also when I don't use a highlighter w/ it it just POPS more imo!
