* Run through the ABCD of change: A is for Awareness of what you need to change. B is for Belief in your ability to change. C is for Commitment to the idea of change. D is for Discipline and your willingness to stick to your plan of change.
* Reawaken your choices. We tend to forget that we have choices at many levels. We can choose the direction of our lives, the thoughts and reactions that we have, even the feelings we create. Cultivating awareness of how are creating our current experiences - of what we're doing and why we're doing it- give us the freedom to create different experiences by making alternative choices.
* See life as a journey, not a destination. Destination consciousness (a constant preoccupation with future goals) ensnares us in anxieties related to time as we fret about our progress. By contrast, journey consciousness (an openness to the present moment) enables us to appreciate the delights and lessons that greet us at every twist and turn along the way.
* Enjoy your own freshness. Life takes place in the present moment; past and future exist only in your imagination. Relish the experience of living in the now - the sensations that feed your senses, the currents of energy that percolate your being.
* Create a positive self-image on the screen of your mind. Visualize yourself as the most positive human being that ever existed. Compose a complete profile of this super-positive person - including their facial expressions, the clothes they're wearing, how they're feeling. Now step into the screen image and start to inhabit it. See life through the eyes of this super-positive person - these are your eyes now and this is your life.
* Find the silver lining in every cloud. Whatever adversity you face, always look for the spark of hope, the positive angle, the hidden benefit. Visualize this as a beam of light piercing the darkness inside your heart and reinforcing your belief in yourself and your abilities to move forward to brighter times ahead.
* Ban self-denying phrases, such as "I can't" or "I don't do things like that, " from your vocabulary: they tend to become self-fulfilling prophecies by their very utterance.
Similarly, ban habitual expression of procrastination, such as "I'll start tomorrow," and phrases of displaced initiative such as "Is there a plan?" Our choice of words tends to reflect our thinking. If we are able to change what we say after becoming aware of phrases we use, it becomes possible to change what we think and ultimately what we do.
* Collect 100 affirmations for coping with a variety of problems and events. Write each of them into a letter-indexed address book, under the situation it relates to. For example, record "I am talented, enthusiastic and committed worker" under the heading job interview; or "My wisdom and beauty increase with age" under Birthdays. Use these affirmations as when the occasion arises.
* Act "as if." Our minds are very suggestible. If you act as if you are serene, happy and free of stress, eventually you may find that becomes a reality.
* Remember there are no mistakes, only opportunities for learning, growth and change.
