Three year old lutreglass...

Today I went to the MAC store to buy a couple of things and to B2M some stuff. I took my Sinnamon lustreglass (which I purchased around Oct/Nov 2007) with me because it had been smelling kinda funky for a while, so just to make sure I wanted to ask the MA's if it had gone bad. The girl looked at it and said "You're going to be grossed out by this, but it smells bad because it was made in 2005!" I was shocked because that meant that when I got it it was already two years old! Now I don't know if I should just B2M the lustreglass and forget about it or complain because it was a ripoff since it was already bad when I bought it and I was using a two year-old product!

Has anyone else had this experience? Any suggestions? Opinions?

It may have been made in '05, but it really starts to age when you open and use it. That being said, it is not unreasonable for you to expect that when you purchase a "new" item from MAC, it should be resonably new. Not two years old.

I would email MAC (if it came from a freestanding) or the store (if you bought it from a counter) and explain the situation. Express your frustration (in a nice manner, or course) and request that you receive a new one.

I would at least try that before you just call it a loss and B2M it.

Not everything goes bad after two years. If it still smells nice, you should be fine...that's what I go by - smell and/or texture change.

Slightly OT but I've found that my glosses purchased in 2005 are still great but most of those afterwards have started to go.
