Tips for a begginer

Hi, my name is Mary and I'm very new to makeup, after 19 years I have decided to give it a try.

I am posting two different looks in order for anyone to help me out and hopefully tell me what I am doing right or wrong.

I hope no one is too harsh, seeing as I do not have experience with makeup.

Thank you in advance. I would really really appreciate some help.

PS Excuse my brows

Maybe more of a defined crease? Makeup is all subjective, it depends on what look/style you are after.

I would totally wear these looks during the day. Maybe if you wanted a more night-time look, try defining the crease, and darkening the outer corners of your eyes a little more. Great job!!!

If you're going for a smokey eye, that looks fine. I would say that something that instantly makes makeup look better is a well defined eyebrows.

Hi Mary,

I used to be a noob at blending (I'm still no professional but I can see improvement). I would say that the inner corner above your lashes always benefits with a bit of blending, I never used to blend it properly but once I started, I saw how much smoother the eye looked. I find it easiest to blend that part by doing the following: applying the colour roughly with your brush, putting your brush just on the inner cornery bit and opening your eye. Then take the brush forwards and backwards there, that really helps.

I am no expert when it comes to blending and if someone who is, posts here and says something different, I'd go with what they say as I'm still learning.

I would also suggest using a base, I'm not sure if you are or not but Urban Decay Primer Potion is very good for keeping your eyeshadow on. If you want the black/darker shadows to appear more vibrant, use a black pencil as a base, stroke it over your lid and blend it in with either your fingers or a brush, whichever is easier.

I find that adding a bit of a shimmery, light (champagne coloured) to the inner corner also helps make these sorts of looks look better.

When I blend, I find it easier to work from the outside in, i.e. I add a crease colour and then the eyelid colour as it works best for my eye shape. You will find out what works best for you as you experiment more.

nice job with the color choices for sure; i might add a bit of highlight under the brow once you've got them cleaned up a bit (and no worries about that either, everyone here at one point or another is "between brow grooming" lol, myself included) but just a bit of highlight there and on the inner "V" might make the eyes look brighter...apart from that, they're very nice neutral colors, you might try something with a little more "pop" as you get braver and don't worry, no one in here is all that harsh...we love the love...xoxo

I tend to spend more time than I'd care to admit in that phase.

Thank you for the comments. I really wanted an opinion because I was afraid I might come out of the house looking stupid. Because there some instances where a person may think it looks good but in reality it doesnt, kind of like those moments where at the moment it seemed like a good idea.

I wish I could have taken more pictures but I didnt, I'm sorry. I just took those pictures, and to be honest I forget what I was putting in my eye.
I was playing with the colors, well practicing.

I really like to thank all you guys as well. I was going to start to give up on makeup because I felt like I didn't know what I was doing.

But now that I know that I am getting better and better within every practice, I'll going to surely keep at it.

Thank again guys, oh, and I'm getting my brows threaded sometimes this week. c :

A year ago I thought putting one colour on my eye was being adventurous and that I would never be able to blend three colours or put on liquid liner without it being a mess.

I know everyone says that practice makes you better, well they aren't lying! It really does. I practice a lot at nights, just before I go to bed and it makes my application in the daytime even better.

Look back at these photos in a years time and you will see vast improvement, I know I did when I looked back at what I had done last year.
