To shave or not to shave?

Okay, my eyebrows suck! They are thin, short & they have no shape. They literally are straight, no arch at all. I have to fill them in extra long to even make it look like I have any type of shape. But, even then they look terrible. I think the best thing to do would be to shave most of them off & draw them in the way I want. But, I am scared that once I shave them off I won't be able to draw them on correctly & then I will look even worse. Any advice? Are there any decent looking stencils I could use until I get the hang of drawing them on? Anyone with shaved brows have any suggestions?

I'd suggest getting them done professionally, just to get an idea of how to do them. I hate my eyebrows (after the arch they're pretty much non-existent so I have to do alot of filling in), but as nunu has said, once you shave them off you might end up regretting it. I have read that they can be rather uncooperative when they're growing back, so I'd shave them off only as a last resort.

I've shaved off my eyebrows once and I regretted it sooo much buttt on the other hand I've shaved off HALF my eyebrows (so I still had some hair and didn't look sick without makeup--just funny looking lool) and drew the rest in (ive done this on a couple of occasions and my eyebrows looked amazing but i can almost never get the exact same shape everytime) my advice is that shaving them or not doesn't help you in being able to draw them better, if you can draw them well you can jus take off the parts that get in the way but shaving off all your eyebrows doesn't look good (Esp. in daylight!)

practice doing the shape you want by marking the three points (start, arch and end) with things on your face (for example you can start directly where your nose leads up) having these points will make it easier to remember and make the same shape everytime

dunno if that helps but hope it does :p

I don't think you should shave them off. It's a pretty harsh look. I also suggest you see a pro.

I also say don't shave them off. It is really harsh and requires a lot of up keep to keep them looking, um, fake. I think you should get them professionally done and then work with that shape. I've never shaved mine off, but I compulsively over-pluck them to the point where they are only a few hairs wide, and I hate it because it makes filling them in so much harder in so many ways.

i did that when i was in high school. i couldn't get the shape i wanted (i was convinced that i'd look hotter than all hell if i had the super defined, high arched drag queen brows) so i shaved those suckers off and drew them in. i got the shape i wanted down pretty quick...and you get used to drawing them in so that the shape is pretty consistent.

i wouldn't do it again, though. my eyebrows are just now looking half way decent (after a few years of trying to grow them out) and i go with my natural arch, which is higher on one side so it kind of irks me, and i'm much happier with them.

but if you feel like you want a shape you can't naturally achieve, i day go for it! do what you think looks best on you.

I have reeally sparse eyebrows and i pretty much hate them. I've gotten them to a shape I really like now. I dont think you should shave your brows off but just tweeze the hairs out that you dont think fit your "shape". I think the whole keep-your-brows-your-natural-shape is a load of crap. Sometimes the brows you're born with don't match your face and could be a lot better. Just keep practicing filling in your brows, and eventually you'll find a shape you like.

Haha, oh MAN, you should see MY natural brows! They're sooo wrong. I barely pluck mine but I have a crazy arch and they have really long outer ends. But the hair at the inside corners fades away to nothing, so the outer edges go much lower than the inner corners. So I end up with this really screwed up downwards-tilting look. The arch itself and how far outwards it goes is natural, but my eyebrows just stop like, waaaaay before they should on the inner corner. You can see my eyebrows in my avatar, and that I have no intention of making them look natural. But I like the way they look now. I look severely screwed up with no brow filler. I agree that it would probably be best to just go to a Pro, and a GOOD one (since there are definitely some not good ones out there), and see what she suggests.

This is what I ended up doing, I just plucked out the outer half. Now I am able to arch them a bit more. It will still take some practice to get them how I really want them though.

Honestly, there is nothing a pro can do for me. My eyebrows are already so thin & straight that they can only "clean them up" a little. I remember the first time I went to have my brows done. I brought a picture of how I wanted them & even the waxer told me that I really don't have an arch & there is no way I could get them like that. There's is just not enough hair or a shape for them to work with : (

OMG! Mine too! The inner corners of my brows are almost non existent. So before I learned how to fill them in they always looked like they were a mile apart LOL! I have seen a few pros before & there is really nothing they can do to make me happy. Which isn't there fault, I just don't have much to work with. I like the way your brows look in your avaitor, do you have any bigger pics so I could really see the shape?

Thanks! Yeah, it's weird eh? We have like, the opposite problem from what most people seem to have. I see all these people extend their brows outwards when they fill them, but I have to extend them inwards.

Here are some larger pictures of my eyebrows. I know I don't make them very natural looking, but that's not my intention. I really like the dramatic and squared off look.

This one is my avatar, but bigger:
