Today a man told me...

...that I would look better without eye shadow. Now I'm alienated about that comment. I so love to wear e/s and how it looks like, but I'm very insecure about myself and don't have too much self-confidence.
Did that happen to some of you and how do you deal with such statements?

I've seen you in eyeshadow and I think you look very pretty with it. I'm sure you probably also rock the natural look, too - which is what I assume that guy prefers. It's not like you're sloppily applying the Mimi-From-Drew-Carey look, here, so if YOU like it, wear it!

I've never understood why people make comments like that. I get told - a lot - that I'd be prettier if I smiled. Who walks around with a smile on their face 24/7?

i take it as a compliment... cuz they dont necessarlily mean u look bad with e/s on just that u r beautiful just the way u r... my boyfriend tells me that all the time... he likes me better w/o makeup but that i look pretty with makeup on too... my coworker tells me the same thing also... cuz these are people who knew me before my makeup crazy and saw me all bare faced and natural and they still loved me... hehe...

It has happened to me. I was once going out with someone who told me that I shouldn't wear makeup because I didn't need it. So, as we are sitting across from each other at dinner he proceeds to name all the products I am wearing on my face, ie. concealer, mascara, foundation, etc. I was annoyed but I took a good look in the mirror and realized I didn't need all that so I cut back a little. I've had people tell me that I don't need to wear the eyeshadow and this or that. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they're wrong. I say "fuck 'em". I like it so I am going to continue to wear it. But sometimes I do need people to say "Azia you're doing too much". I have a habit of going a little overboard sometimes.

my bf is not crazy about me wearing makeup, 'cause he's not used to it yet, but he never told me that I'd look better without, most of the time he just says: "you look pretty" and that's fine with me

Shatz, I've seen your eyeshadow and it is perfection. If I could do my eyes like you, I swear before everyone here that I would even sleep in it!

The man must like his women plain. You, stunning creature, are the antithesis of plain.

Sometimes men like a woman her natural self, without any makeup on... My husband is almost like that, he prefers subtle makeup

It's no wonder you feel slightly confused. The media puts pressure on women to look their best at all times i.e. wearing make-up, having treated hair, blah blah blah...
The truth is some people like makeup and some don't. Actually most guys I know prefer less make up than more make-up. But the great thing is you can always wash it off. Don't worry about what other people say, especially some random person because you can't please everyone. Just have fun!

It happened to me last weekend. I was going to a holiday party and stopped at the grocery to get a bottle of wine for the host. I was wearing a mix of blues and pinks on my eyes, with a full set of false lashes. It was a bright fun look, supposed to be a little outrageous. I have more than enough occasions where natural makeup is most appropiate. Heck, it was a Saturday night. An older lady was staring at me in the store and followed me back to the liquors. She said " Honey, I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but all that makeup makes you look really cheap" I told that was fantastic, as that was exactly how I had intended to look.

Glad I didn't spend all that time on it for nothing! Anyway, she just turned around and walked away. My husband laughed his ass off for the rest of the night.
I wouldn't waste a lot of time worrying about what others think of your eyeshadow. I know a lot of men who prefer women to have a more natural look, but that is just their opinion. Wear whatever you feel comfortable and confident with. Your FOTD's are lovely, there is nothing wrong with your makeup. Don't let a little thing like that affect your self-image.

Look at it this way; it would be a lot worse if he had said "Oh you look so much better with makeup on; you should put on makeup more often" (upon which you should proceed to clobber his head for being so darn insensitive).

I'd definitely take it as a compliment that he thinks you look good naturally

some people just don't like make up, deal with it...not to seem rude, but why should you, after investing your time and money, give up something you love so much because some MAN doesn't like it? well, he ain't wearing it...i say work it, then at least those who don't like it can't say you didn't put it on right

Depending on the mood etc. I would've told him he looks better in his underwear, but one can't be walking around everyday outdoors in that!

A homeless man heckled me in the street once. He said "Hate the makeup, love the body". You guys have probably seen that FOTD from me:p Alot of men just prefer women to be more natural. Your makeup always looks good, it's not as if you do a poor job with it. If you enjoy wearing it then wear it!

Thanks for all that nice comments! I'm sure I still will wear my e/s cause I'm definitely not that all-natural girl
