Hi!

As you can see I go to Stuttgart in about 11 days and I want to take my makeup with me!
Now I don't know what to put in my traincase/suitcase and what to put in my carry-on baggage because I'm scared that anything my shatter or break!

So what do you recommend (does this thread go into Recommendations?) for me?

TIA!

Me personally, I ALWAYS take ALL of my makeup with me in my carry-on. This way, I have have control of it and I keep an eye on everything. That's just me though.

me too - i second taking everything in your carry-on bag. i always pack for travel with the assumption that my luggage will be lost :) so i generally take everything i would need and couldn't easily replace (of course MAC falls in that category) with me in my carry-on bag. damage to/loss of any of my MAC stuff would ruin my vacation, so i would say just keep it with you to be on the safe side.

p.s.- also the airline people really throw around luggage so i would be concerned the pressed powder products breaking.

I take my M·A·C knapsack with all my makeup as carryon as it's worth about €2,500 . The only things that get checked-in with the rest of my bags are scissors and tweezers. Of course, you may find your airline limits you to a certain weight or number of items for carryon.

Thx for your answers!

The problem is that the airline has a 5kg restriction and I have to take my notebook with me that weighs about 3,2kg and I doubt that my whole makeup weighs 1,8kg

I carry on all of my makeup too. If you have to divide it up, I would take all of your breakable powder items like blush and eyeshadow in your carry-on, and then check your lipstick, lipglosses, and the like (just make sure the lipglosses are well-sealed and put into a separate plastic bag in case they leak).

god, PLEASE don't be like me and check yours in. I made the mistake of checking in my backpack (INTERISLAND!! HALF HOUR TRIP!!) and it ended up that my bag never made it to Maui. I panicked, seeing as I had packed a good amount of MAC in there. Turns out that they luckily found it and sent it to my hotel BUT my Black Tied completely shattered and turned my whole makeup case BLACK. I spent two hours with a bottle of makeup remover and things are still tinged grey to this day!!
If you have a weight restriction, I'd totally go with what absolut_blonde is saying. Pack the breakables in your carryon (and use padding!) and the rest can go in your suitcase.

Definately take as much as you can on the plane. I always go with the assumption that they will lose all my things

If you haven't invested in any palettes yet, they travel so much better than loose products.

I'm with you. I've actually started packing an extra pair of socks, panties, and an extra shirt in my carry on (and all my makeup) in the event they lose my luggage!

oh VV i can sympathise, im having this dilema too as im off to Sweden next week!
I might try and pack as little as possilble and hopefully take just a small bag that i can check in as hand luggage (*runs off to check SAS website*) so i wont have to part with my MAC lol!

i agree...they throw bags around andu cant lock them anymore so basically dont put anything in ur bag that u would be sad about if it was gone. i never check makeup or anything other than clothes because of the breakage factor...i would try to take bare minimums if u have a weight restriction

The "no lock" regulations don't apply in Europe - it's just a USA thing. In the USA rather than lock my bag I use a plastic cable tie which you can get from stores like Radio Shack - I pick a distinctive colour too;

They can't be removed without cutting so I'll know if someone has tampered with my luggage but the TSA can get easy access if they want to. So that I can get into my luggage myself the outer pocket of my checked luggage contains a pair of paramedic shears which are on the end of a long piece of cord tied to a ring on the bag so they won't get lost;

Try bringing all the makeup you can, in a layer of bubble wrap, with some tissue paper. That should ensure that no make up will break, or open.
