Unsmooth Eyeshadow

Hey everyone!

I have a dilemma. Whenever I put on eyeshadow with a base (paint, paintstick, UDPP, Mixing Medium) My eyeshadow looks textured and yucky...kind of like looks like glitter or something.

It seems to only happy in the inner crease of my eyes. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?
TIA!!

maybe you're using too much?

a very thin layer is all that's needed.

another one to try is Benefit Lemonaid - it is drier in texture than paint or a shadestick.

I agree with the above. When I use too much, my shadows look very cakey. Just use a very small amount of base & it should fix the problem.

have you tried applying a wash of pigment in your skin color underneath. i found applying a layer of provence pigment makes e/s application smoother.

Yeah, a wash would be just a very very small amount over the whole lid. I use barely any, just enough to faintly cover the whole lid area. I notice when I use too much paint, it does the same thing you mentioned, the paint kind of pills up with the eyeshadow. Hope this helps!

I was having the same problems with paints, so here is what I do now... I get a teeny amount of paint on my index finger (just barely squeeze, so that it looks like almost nothing has even come out and wipe my finger across the opening), then I pat my two index fingers together. This warms up the paint and gets a tiny amount on each finger. I use my right finger for my right eye and my left finger for my left eye.

This helps me get only a little bit for each eye, otherwise I end up looking really patchy!

yup, what i do is apply my base, usually UDPP, then with a fluffy e/s brush like the 213 put some provence pigment (or any skin-tones pigment) and apply on entire area from lashes up to brows, even sometimes under the eye area to set my concealer. i find that it brightens/evens things out and provide a smooth foundation for my eyeshadows. i like provence since it is kinda matte and it matches my skintone perfectly.

Maybe you dont even need an eyeshadow base, I bought an Urban Decay one but don't use it anymore because my eyeshadow goes on smoother on my bare eyelids.

oooo good point...
It always seems to become cakey on my right eye. I must be applying it too heavy on that side..
