Unsure of how to go about all of this...

So yesterday, I had a day off from my regular job and decided I'd take my mom out for lunch. Afterwards I went up to the Columbia mall and decided to make a stop by the MAC store they had put in awhile back. I looked good, had heels on, make up looked awesome (will post FOTD later haha)

So I stop into the store and one of the MA's immediatly complimented my makeup and asked if I worked at MAC. To which I promptly stated "I wish!!!" She told me I should definatly apply and two other assumed MA's walk out of the back. The MA #1 tells them that my makeup looks great and that I should consider applying and one of the other two MA's takes a nice look at me and says, "You're makeup looks great, you look like a MAC girl. Here's my card, give me a call."

So I say thank you, take her card and continue my shopping. (I was almost jumping out of my skin I was so excited, I forgot what I came in there for haha) I read her card when I was paying for my things and it turns out that the MA that gave me her card was the MAC recruiter for the DC/MD/VA area! MA #1 told me that she was at the store all day doing interveiws and it was a great thing that she saw me. So I was, to say the least, prettttty damn excited.

But now. I'm sitting here at my desk at work with the MAC application and her card in front of me wondering what the heck I do next? I know I should probably call her back, but what exactly do I say..."Oh hi! My names Katura, you saw me as you were leaving MAC in the columbia mall???" haha...and then, this application, I've already filled it out, so what next? Drive it back up to comumbia? Call her first and then take it back up there? and then the salary, I've put down that I'd like to start out as part time, possibly weekend work, so how much should I ask for? I'm a little clueless on that part. If someone would PM me with a suggestion on that one, that would be great. AGH! so many questions!

I would love to work at MAC! Help me out ladies!!!

***Call her back and say "Hi, I'm Katura, you gave me your card _____day and told me I should call because I'm interested in working for MAC, I've completed my application and was wondering when a good time to bring it back would be" and see what she says.

As far as salary goes, I don't know how MAC handles that, but I DO know that when I was manager of a bridal shop, if I offered my card to someone I remembered her, so chances are good she'll remember you.

Thanks Shimmer, I can just hear myself geting nervous and goofing it up haha..start stuttering and all that mess. I'm just glad it happened to be the day I didn't go to the mall in my sweat pants and flip flops with noting but eyeliner on!

Ok don't worry about stuttering or anything lol seriously. I talk REALLY fast sometimes and tend to stutter and this was 10x worse when I interviewed with the RM. I even called myself out about it and she laughed and said not to worry about it everyone is usually nervous.

I said do what Shimmer says, just call her remind her who you are. Let her know you have your resume and application ready to hand to her whenever she has time.

Salary I usually leave it blank and discuss that with them. They wont give you a salary until they officially offer you the position and you accept it.

You should definietly call her back and say along the lines of what Shimmer posted. Also, on your application where it asks to list expected salary I suggest you just write "negotiable", that way you can discuss that aspect face to face. Another thing, make sure you drop of your application with a good-looking resume. MAC doesn't always expect past cosmetic experience but whatever customer service experience you have will be greatly beneficial.

Sweetie, definitely GO FOR IT! And if she's the regional recruiter, she may recommend you to a counter in Annapolis. Also, you know in Columbia Mall there's a Nordstrom counter about 5 doors down from the freestanding store...

Just do what Shimmer suggested. She's a wise woman. The recruiter will either remember you or not, but she'll certainly be nice and helpful. Her job is to recruit new employees!

Just Do It!

PS: I was encouraged to work for MAC at that exact same store! The manager there gave me her card and the name of a manager down here in Richmond where I live now, and through a chain of events that's kind of convoluted I am now about to start working at MAC. So if they stopped you, they are interested!

Don't sweat it...you're going to be just fine. Just remember the little details: shoes polished/good condition/no scuffs, very little perfume, etc. People notice those things.

And....make sure your nails are either done or at least really clean. The last time I worked at one of the counters, they were interviewing people for freelance positions, and the managers were talking about things like that. They didn't hire this one girl (even though her makeup skills were fierce) because she had dirty, grungy nails.

So...I just got back from my trip to DC for my interview...

And I about wanted to shoot myself. I woke up thismorning, showered, figured out my makeup and all, did my hair all cute (will post FOTD later) got dressed, had my application. Had to be at the Metro by 10:30 so I could be there a little early, so I'd leave my house at 10. Gosh I had a good plan! I get in the car, call the boyfriend, realize I forgot to print out my resume.Run to my work (its on the way to the metro thank goodness) Print it out. Run back to my car. Play speed demon all the way to the Metro only to find that EVERYONE and their mother went to DC today to see the Cherry Blossoms and I guess there was a baseball game going on as well. AKA: No Parking. So I park like a half mile away...half run (I was in stilettos...) to the station, and finally get on. The next train I had to switch to was 8 minutes away and I thought I was going to scream. I called Homa, because I figured I was going to be a few minutes late because of these few set backs, but no answer. AGH! Freaking out! I finally got there at 11:45. I felt horrible! She wasn't hugely worried about it...but I was kicking myself....ugh.

But the interview itsself went okay. She took me out into the mall, sat down with me and she looked at my makeup, told me it looked pretty good, just more blending and some blush would be nice. We talked about my lack of work in retail, but sh etold me I had great energy, the right look, and I seemed very professional (! yay...even after the late thing...) We talked about sales goals and she asked me situational questions like:
If someone came in looking for a foundation, can you name three other products you would rec. to her?
Same with eyeshadow.
Then she asked me if someone came in looking at mascara, and said she loved her drugstore brand but wanted to check out others what would I say/rec. (I almost flubbed this one)
She also asked me how comforatable I was applying makeup on others and I gave myself a prettttty comforatable. And then she told me to rate myself on that from 1-5 and I gave myself a 4, and she got a surprised look, but i finished saying theres always room for improvement and such.
She asked what I thought being a MAC employee entailed and I went through the whole thing, being presentable, being available to customers, being friendly, being able to stock, continuing to improve on techniques, being a part of a team...etc.

We talked about the different stores I would be able to work at without having to deal with coming to DC So I might end up in Annapolis, Bowie, or one of the Columbia counters/stores.

So...after that long story! She told me to come to the second part of the interview at Columbia mall on the 16th, bring a model, myself in full face, she reminded me to wear blush...haha...

I'm glad that ones over...now! I need to find myself a model and practicepracticepractice!!!!

I'm reading this thread wishing you guys to get the job! Don't worry about it Slvrlips, one thing I like about MAC is how different their employees are from the other brands, at least here in France. We have often guys in full makeup, girls with very different looks makeup-wise, style-wise, and of course shape-wise. This should be the case everywhere, but I only really see it in MAC stands.
