Unusual experience during an exchange

I was at my local MAC Pro store doing an exchange (got a pigment I wasn't happy with the texture of) and when the manager came over to authorize the exchange he asked me for my phone number. I thought that was a bit odd since I have maybe returned 4 things in my ten years of buying MAC. I don't see why he'd suddenly want to enter my phone number?? I buy enough stuff at MAC that I get invited to the private launches, and I'm not one of those girls who returns stuff all the time. Has this happened to anyone else?

I can't speak for pro stores but I know at places like belk, nordys, and macys they usually ask for your liscence and enter your address and such. I think its just a way to track returns not anything personal.

Nope they never ask for my phone number...But they always ask for my name and look it up in the system...so I guess it's the same thing. I only shop at the PRO and they have always done this, even when I buy.

Yeah they looked me up because I was exchanging and buying more items, I just thought it was odd that after he authorized the return of the pigment that he asked for my phone number and entered it. I was just thinking, "What would he need that for?"

The only thing I can think of is that I faxed in my pro membership application (I do freelance photography) and maybe something popped up about that? I have no idea.

I understand that they look you up in the system and have things like your address on file, but a phone number just seemed a little out of the blue.

They ask me for my name (not phone number) when I am purchasing or exchanging but never when I'm buying.

It was probably missing from your profile and he added it to complete the empty field.

But they didn't ask for your phone number?

I can see them adding a phone number to my profile, but I thought that the only info on a profile at MAC was your name and address?

no its name, addy email and phone, the more fields that are filled in brings up our capture rate. we DO NOT SELL your info to a third party. we use the info to track new customers and existing customers, also we use it to send out collection info and friends and family discounts. he was just filling the empty field on your profile (which pops up when you return something, it tracks what you buy as well as what you bring back). dont worry, its nothing weird, no one will call you!!

Tks for the info!

It's not that I thought someone was going to call me, I don't think I'd mind calls from MAC, haha, but I just thought it was unusual. That's cool though if there's a field for it that probably just needed to be filled in.
