i'm sure some of you have noticed that as well , you try the eyeshadow with your fingertips on your hand and its just beautiful , gorgeous , nice texture ... and then when you apply it with a brush on your lid & the colors just doens't pop as much anymore , im guessing the pressure you apply with your finger tips on your hand is not the same as the pressure applied of bristles , idk just some random idea that popped in my head . i bought a dark gray eyeshadow from inglot and on my head its perfect but on my lid its like

what happened ?!

Try packing it on more on the brush then pat it on your eye lid, don't sweep. Just keep on adding the colour till the desired shade. Hope this helps.

The closest applicator to a fingertip I can think of is a sponge applicator, like the ones that come with eyeshadows.

If I pick up enough colour with them, I can press on a good deal of pigment onto the eye. But it's a whole lot of waste since most of the product ends up on the sponge. So for me, still a brush over fingers/sponge-tip applicator any day.

You can get really good color payoff by dampening your shadow or tool. When you apply with your fingers, the natural oils on your hands as well as the pressure is what gives you that great pigmentation and color payoff. I like to use damp tools, especially with shimmery colors. Contact solution works really well!
