want underlayers darker...what should i do?

What is this called, and what exactly is it? I want a (rockerish) look, but simple to maintain, so i want the underlayers darker....

btw my hair is medium brown now..

im not sure what its called but im blonde on top and just got my hair done with a chocolate /reddy brown colour underneath!

if you want to get it done you should just tell the hairdresser that you want it DARKER underneath your hair so its noticeable i guess??

It's called lowlights. Since your hair is medium brown the only color you can get for lowlights is black. If you dye your hair a lighter color than you can get different colored lowlights.

The technique is "streaming", where your hair is divided into top and bottom sections and dyed different colours. Check out all the swatches available at the salon, you don't have to go with an exact colour in mind as they have tons of shades. You could do a dark brown or red-brown, a rich chocolate brown, or black. Blue black, purple black, red black, or black black would all look cool. Post pictures once you get your hair done!
