Guys, warm skin has yellow undertones, cool tones have blue.

MissMarley, you pull both looks off nicely. Your skin appears to be pretty neutral, maybe leaning more to the cool side.

People say if you check the veins in your arms and they look blue, you're cool and if they look green you're warm.

Agreed with Claresauntie, you look more cool to me. You can carry both looks well but cool suits you much nicer.

I've read that a lot of people can carry off cool colors if they are warm, and warm if they are cool, but using the opposing undertones is a more dramatic look. I am thinking that's the case for you, since the cool colors look so nice and the warm colors look really POW!

Well it depends on who you ask as I've heard both terms used differently...traditionally I think I've heard cool as having pink undertones whereas warm is leaning towards the yellow undertones...as I think you described in your pics...and so with that I personally think the cool tones (first pics) suit you best...however I think MAC does the reverse in describing undertones (as in warm has pink undertones) so that may be why you get some confusing/conflicting responses...
hmm.gif
....I think the makeup world just likes to confuse us...lol! Anyway, both looks look really good...and you can pull off the warm...however I feel the cool makes you "pop" more...HTH!

....

Actually, you're partly correct. Skin undertones are skin undertones, and I don't think MAC technically calls cool warm and vice versa. If I have cool undertones, the artists will acknowledge that correctly. However, MAC does mark their foundations in a way that people sometimes find confusing: they call their cool colors "NW" and their warm colors "NC". I've heard suggestions to consider the NW (for cool undertoned skin) to be thought of as "needs warm" or "neutralizes warm" because the foundation has warm undertones, which balance out the cool undertones in cool skin. The reverse is also true: consider "NC" (for warm undertoned skin) to be thought as "needs cool" or "neutralizes cool" because the foundation has cool undertones, which balance out the warm undertones in warm skin.

Does that help, or confound?

foundation help

it's actually the opposite. if your veins look green you are cool and if they look blue you are warm. yellow and olive-y undertones are cool. pink undertones are warm. I think that you look warm.

With all due respect, you're incorrect. Google it: blue veins are always tied to cool skin, green veins with warm. Yellow and olive-y skin is usually warm and needs cool-toned foundation, hence the MAC foundation recommendation of NC.

The foundation explanation page for MAC is telling you that if you have blue veins, you need warm-toned foundation, not that you're warm-toned.

I was tentatively colormatched to NW20, but they really weren't sure. I normally wear Hyperreal when I wear foundation, and it's just 100, with no NW or NC.

I would say that you are definately COOL. Not that you can't pull off warm tones nicely, but cool suits you much better IMHO.

I agree with this. Cool = pink undertones, warm = yellow undertones.
