What are your buying practices?

I just wanted to know how every one else goes about buying MAC. I list everything I want in a color spectrum list on the MAC site and put the ones I can wait on in the save for later list. The ones I really want and am going to get sooner are in the cart. Then, I only print that page so I'll know how much it's going to cost and figure up the tax and take it to the MA, hopefully making her job a little easier. Does anyone else do something similar to this?

Haha wow, I def. do not do anything that organized.
I just keep a list of everything I want in my WL on makeupalley and then when I feel like buying, I just write down a list on a post-it of items I can afford at the time.

I have a spreadsheet with my wishlist. I rate things in order of priority - a 1, 2 or 3. I just make sure that I have top priority items before I buy things I need less.

Mine's pretty much the same as the above, except I list everything into LE and Perm. & then priority and I'll buy my "must have" LE and then leave it a few days and see if I actually feel the need to buy the stuff that's next on my LE list.

I used to buy makeup for a specific look when my interest in makeup first began, about 5 years ago. I would comb through magazines (beauty, art, entertainment), and tear out any pictures with models with similar features or beautiful neutral makeup. I would take whichever picture i liked the most, and then make a preliminary breakdown of what i thought i needed to achieve that look, and go armed with a list and the picture to the mac counter. I would typically only buy whatever shadows, lipsticks, and blush I would need to create that specific look. It cut down on a lot of impulse buying. Downside, i missed out on a lot of nice LE items.

Nowadays, I have so much makeup, I just buy whatever catches my eye, or fills a needed gap in my collection.

OMG I do that too Indigo waters!

That's awesome! I used to have everything the pencils in one group, the blushes in another and then would take the whole thing over to the mac store and figure it out from there LOL

Lol. Yeah. I bunched all the eyeshadows together except Black Tied, Chrome Yellow, Aquadisiac and a few others. But the main ones are going from brown to natural, yellow, gold, orange, coral, pinks, fuschias, violets. I forgot the greens and blues! Oh well, I'll do it again another day when I get that kind of time on my hands.

That's what I did when I got a wack load of gift money circa Lingerie... I heard about all the collections and knew I had to prioritize what I wanted. The difference is, my rating went up to 5 cuz I*really* had to pare down. I only allowed myself to get 4's or 5's (4's if the 5's weren't in stock).

Right now, since I don't have a wack load of money, it's mainly assessing the swatches and comments from ppl who get them, see if there's a gap in what I already have, then mentally jot it down. LE's first, perms 2nd. I'm cooling on the LE's, tho, so I'll be slowly buying more perm items.

i buy when i feel like it..

i'm prone to impulse buying...so i don't really have a list of what i will/want to buy from MAC...unless it's the LE collectios of course

if I see colors I like in a FoTD, and I dont have it, I might remember it when I'm in the store.

Else I'm a lot like Shimmer...

I impulse buy based on what I think looks pretty at the time. Maybe a pretty color in the pot I dont have yet, or some MU I see a MA doing that looks nice.

I think MU is more fun when it's impulse. Being all scientific about it takes the fun away. Plus this way I dont stress out over all the LE collections that come out every month. I end up buying more non LE products than LE ones a lot of the times. Unless I'm at the counter specifically to buy some LE stuff that I want, since it sells out so fast. MSF's come to mind.

I also try to only go to the counter once a month. Since when I'm there I always end up spending a few hundred. I try to keep it to one-hundred a trip, but that never happens.

LOL

Hahaha, Raerae, I'm even a step beyond the impulse buy. In keeping with keeping it around a hundred, I just go in and start blurting colours, and flitting from display to display, nattering, "what about this, does this look good? How about this?" etc. I think they must think I'm a lunatic, but I'm not. I just get really focused on my hobbies.

I can't keep it under 100, either, though. I was at 101, recently, but up to 125 today.

I have a list, too, but it seems to disappear everytime I get near a counter... It's just not as fun as spaz buying.

I've been buying eyeshadows since June. After I got my "core" colors and everyday looks, I used a program called HandyShopper (shopping list) on my Treo phone. I usually list colors on it that catch my eye and I go to MAC or buy a couple items a week, depending on what I'm feeling most.

I have a list of products I want in general. When I have money, I go and buy as much as I can afford. I try to keep a balance. What determines what I buy is if I don't have a lot or any of one shade or if I know it's something hard to find

^Too funny. When I go to the store, I think the MUAs don't bother me because they think I'm texting, but I'm really looking at the list!
