What is your hair regimen like?

I was just wondering what kind of schedule everyone likes to follow. How often you shampoo, condition, clarify, use leave in, a deep conditioner, a mask, etc etc?? It would be helpful to list the products and what kind of hair you have too (curly, thick, fine, etc).

Basically my hair is getting long for the first time in years and it's taking me a lot more work now, so I'm looking for good ideas and product recs.

Length: Long (near middle of the back)
Type: thick and wavy
Condition: oily-ish at roots, dry + split ends due to tons of heat styling. prone to frizziness and curling up at the slightest hint of humidity as well as static-y fly aways. seasonal dry scalp/dandruff.

I shampoo+condition about 3 times a week, or whenever necessary due to product buildup. I have found time and time again that for my hair type and what I put it through, any more than 3 or 4 times a week is really over doing it, and I begin to see my hair being stripped and giving me more problems than it did shampooing less. I try and clarify using a volumizing shampoo of any kind (currently using Umberto) whenever I have product buildup.

once a week or once every 2 weeks I do a deep conditioning treatment. I love John Frieda Kelp Help as well as Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner.

For wavy styling, I love VO5 Whipped Volume Mousse (think it's DC'd tho) combined with Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Defining Lotion.

For straightening, I use Biosilk and Matrix Sleek Look Iron Smoother when using a flatiron. I'm currently on the hunt for my HG straightening product and heat protectant

When my scalp starts to act up, either getting dandruff, being dry, or really oily, I reach for Head and Shoulders. I only use it until the symptoms go away though, then I go back to what I normally use. It works out well.

Since my ends are super dry and split, I use a little bit of serum such as Biosilk on them pretty frequently, or else it looks like frayed hay at the ends.I'll stop once I get a much needed trim, lol.

hth and enjoy your long hair!

Biosilk is okay, but Redkens 12 Align is a better heat protectant. Not only is it a moisture serum - it's a heat protectant and is 100% humidity resistant. It's amazing and worth a try. Continue with your trims and try either a moisturizing shampoo (I love AG) - but since you mentioned you have oily hair you could try a thermal shampoo (Revlon's salon brand has a good one as does Chi)

@ Glow, thank you for your advice. I don't use Biosilk as my primary heat protectant though, just as my silicone serum, though silicone is a great heat protector itself. The IronSmoother is heatproof up to 450f

I'm def checking out 12 Align, though, as it seems it will do both those jobs in one. Thanks for the rec!

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Redken line in general. I want to check them out; now that my length is past my shoulders, I am straigthening it 2-3 times a week and I don't want the heat styling to impede my growth too much. I want it to reach bra strap length.

I'm currently using Fekkai Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner but I'm almost out. When I straighten, I'm using both Biosilk and Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock, but I *still* have a lot of flyaways. I think I want to try TIGI Afterparty for that problem. Any other suggestions?

I have long, thick, coarse, poker straight, unnaturally red hair.

I wash my hair whenever I find it necessary. Sometimes it's daily, sometimes I skip days. Whenever I do, I shampoo and condition using Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special and I use John Freida Red Illuminating Color Glaze. I have to use detangler (thanks, coarse hair!), so I use Big Sexy volumizing detangler. Sometimes, I run out and end up using my daughter's No More Tears detangler. Whatever. They both get the job done.

Every other time I wash, I use Redken Anti-Snap and Redken Spiral Control. I do not naturally have curly hair, but it was recommended to me by the woman that regularly cuts my hair. Since I curl my hair and it's coarse, she thinks it's the best leave-in for me. My hair does look especially lovely after I use it. Not only that, but it smells great.

Every once in a while, I use Apple Cider Vinegar to remove the build-up from my hair. My grandmother told me about the home remedy when I was a kid. I've done it about once every month or so since then. Whenever I remember, really.

About using Vinegar: http://chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com/shampving.htm

When I style my hair, I use Big Sexy root lifter and hairspray by the same company.

I've had long hair my entire life. When I was a kid, it was to my knees. About two months ago, I cut off a foot of it. I just don't have the time or patience for super long hair anymore. Now, it's to my chest. At least I don't spend an hour curling it these days! Sadly, short hair just doesn't suit me, so it does indeed require a lot of work to keep it looking nice. Especially if you color. I really would suggest looking into something to prevent breakage and a good leave-in. Some of them can get expensive, so.. if there's a Sally's Beauty Supply anywhere near you, they offer a pretty decent sized line of Generics. I use them sometimes and they're equally effective.

LENGTH: very long [down to the bottom of my back] with a side fringe [or side BANGS for u US girls]
TYPE: thick, naturally curly, highlighted
CONDITION: kinda oily at the roots, pretty normal everywhere else and a bit dry at the bottom

Mondays, Wednesdays, fridays/saturdays:
TIGI catwalk fashionista shampoo + conditioner to keep my highlights bright and stop them from fading [i havent had my highlights done since may so whenever i use this it makes my roots blend in so it all looks blonde! yeh i sound sick lol but i dont like to over-d0 my hair with products/heat/colour etc.

i let my hair naturally dry because its so long so i dont wanna damage it. msot people do it like everyday i dunno how they do it:| but i wouldnt. so once its dry i put on a smoothing lotion just to keep it smooth and shiny for the next morning and its ually TIGI catwalk smoothing lotion [purple bottle] i cant really remember the name.

i put a mask on my hair weekly and it makes it go super soft and silky [usually JOHN FREIDA blonde hair repair mask. i get the sachets but im gna start buying a tub of it to save abit of money.

i straighten my hair 1-2 times per week but i usually keep it curly because thats how it naturally is. i only ever blow dry my hair like once a month when im going somewhere special or in a rush lol... im so scared of damaging my hair

i get it trimmed like 2-3 times per year when i get ti highlighted. i dont like gettin it trimmed because i wanna keep the length and i feel ugly when i do get a trim coz it looks shorter even though its still very long but i just look better with my long hair!

i remember my aunt giving me this glass bottle of serum called KERASTASE and it made my hair absolutly gorgeous and sooo shiny i wanted to buy some but i never knew where they sold it here because she lives in belgium and i found out they sell it at hqhair.com for about £16 and the bottle is TINY! smaller than a MAC foundation bottle. but im gnna get it anyway coz ts amazing and i reccomend it to anyone even with oily hair because my roots r kinda oily and it doesnt make them look worse as long as i dont use too much

ohh yeh for heat protection i use BEYOND THE ZONE heat protection spray (orange bottle) and its amazing! dont put too much on or hair will look greasy but it really does protect it.

also TIGI afterparty is amazing for smoothing my hair down and making it look like i just had it done but i dont use it often as i dont like to use too much product.

I wash my hair every other day (unless it's the summer and I've been swimming or at the beach; or after a workout & I'm really sweaty). I don't do it everyday because it really strips my hair of it's shine and makes it strawlike).

I use John Freida's Straight Ahead shampoo & conditioner. Then after I blowdry my hair, & straighten it I apply Pantene Silkening Adoucir creme to my hair to make it silky & smooth. Not to mention it smells great & really makes my hair so shiny, soft & silky. works great with my flat iron!

My hair is past my shoulders, dyed, dry ends, greasy roots. I have it dyed about 5x a year.

I wash my hair every other day. I always use a conditioner (I leave it in for at least one minute). I try to use a mask once a week and leave it in for about 15-20 minutes. Then I rinse the product out and wrap a towel around my hair. I wait for about 30 minutes, apply a product that protects my hair against the heat and helps straightening my hair (Bumble & bumble Straight). Then I wait until my hair is 80% dry and then I blowdry it quickly. I apply some Joico K-pak serum when it's about 90% dry and then I *try* to make it straight with my blowdrier.
I'm still searching for the perfect way and products to make my hair straight without pulling and frying it!
