when making your own palette, do you sort them by color?

I try to organize my palettes and quads by color families. It looks visually appeasing, but the only problem with that, is that you will always be aquiring more colors, so the order of your palettes might be under revision a lot, which gets annoying. I think it's easier not to care, esp. if you are working with 2 palettes worth of colors.

This is how I have my palettes organized:

Neutrals
Purples
Blues/Greens
Pinks/Misc.

But like Twinkle_Twinkle said, as you acquire new shadows it takes some re-arranging.

I do organize them by the spectrum, at least kind of. I have two palettes right now, one is warms and neutrals, the other is cools. Once the Matte2 e/s come out, I'll be switching to Blue/Green, Purple/Pink/Red, Yellow/Orange/Neutrals.

mine are organized by color or collection and labeled on the the front. the permanent colors have their own color palette (golds/bronzes, pinks, purples, greens, blues, greys/blacks, neutrals, browns).

then the limited edition ones are separate. if i have four colors from a collection, i put them in a quad and label the back of the quad with the collection name. larger/smaller collections are put in palettes wherever they fit (i have anywhere from 2-7 colors from each collection). the front of those palettes are just labeled "collections". that way if i want to wear a LE color, i can just grab the "collections" palettes to find what i need.

i only have 2 15-pan palettes and one is neutrals and one is colours.

anyone who opens my neutral palette wonders how one brown-eyed woman can require so much brown eye shadow!

I keep my most commonly used colours in one palette (things like Shroom, Carbon, Nehru, Expensive Pink, Satin Taupe, etc) and the rest are split out by colour.

i finally whittled myself down to 6 15-pans and 2 quads, from 8 15-pans and countless quads, both pre- and self-made. i honestly still have too many eyeshadows, but can't bring myself to part with any more. i have everything organized by color, now, with a green, blue, red/pink, purple, black/neutral, and brown/gold palette, and then 2 quads, filled with the c-shock colors, which i only did because i didn't want to have to re-do the rest of the palettes. i also de-quadded my pre-made quads, since i found i never used them. now that the colors are in my 15-pans, they're more accessible.

i have all my e/s depotted into a bunch of E.L.F quads, which i labelled "cool pinks", "warm pinks", "gold pinks", "bright greens", "olive greens" ect ect. theyre usually labelled by shade, family, and undertone.
but then in my MAC 15 quad, i have my more commonly used shadows, and then i carry around a MAC quad daily that i put the e/s of the day in to bring along with me.

i guess its easiest for alot of people to sort them by color, but its really a personal preference... whatever system works best for you to organize your shadows and to make them easiest to navigate.

right now i have everything organized by colors, purple, red/orange/yellow, blues, greens, browns, white/black. i had all my LE organized in quads but then i found that i wasnt grabbing them often enough, so i added them to the palettes.

mine are organized by: plums/purples, teals/blues, beige/brown, yellow/coral/orange/red, white/silver/taupe/grey/black, greens, pinks/burgundy, pro colors

i think it kinda depends on what you have. if you have a lot of one particular color it would make sense to get a palette dedicated to its color family but if you dont have that many yet, I think it would make more sense to have palettes for warms and cools or neutral and color eyeshadows. I think palette organization is very personal so just do whatever feels best to you
