Not sure if they still carry them, but at MAC Stores they have had Lip Mix Palettes before.
Is consists of a compact with a removeable/replaceable plastic tray insert that has several (can't remember exactly how many) empty spaces. I think there is space for a small brush as well.
These were created to serve as a place to mix up Lip Mixes and create custom colors.
That's the only type of empty lip palette that I know of MAC to carry.

The Pro stores should have them. I ordered mine thru the 800#.
There are 10 small wells in the palette. They hold about 2/3 of a full lipstick. There are also 2 large wells. I use one to hold lip conditioner, and one to mix colors. There is a spatula included, and space for one lip brush. It also has a mirror. I really like that about this palette. I wish the 15 eyes had a mirror.

I use the spatula to remove the amount of lipstick I want from the tube. Then use the same spatula to press the color down into the well. Repeat with as many colors as you like. Then I microwave the removeable palette at ten second intervals on the defrost or melt butter setting. You may have to do this several time before they melt down smooth. Just be sure to watch it like a hawk, and never set it for more than ten seconds at a time. Different textures melt a differant speeds. Frosty ones melt very quickly, so you may want to do them last, after a first run with matte textures. When they have melted to a liquid state place them in the freezer immediately. Let them set for five minutes. Then clean any splatter or melt over from the palette with a q-tip. You shouldn't have any spillage unless you overfill them. Then they will be pretty and smooth in your palette.

I have used this method for two palettes with no problems.

Wow, i didn't know they still had those. They sound fantastic for mixing pigments with tastis, which a while back I had a lot of fun doing. I even managed to get a fairly good reproduction of Dainty Cake l/s by doing so!

Hmmm, I must look into this. It would be great for keeping all my lipsticks together, and being able to B2M them. I also just thought of another thing this palette would be great for. Concealer! Then I could melt that down and B2M my concealer pot too.

Actually, that is a great idea-- my MAC concealer broke (the clear part totally shattered) so it doesn't have a lid anymore. I've just been keeping it in a little plastic baggie when I throw it in my purse so it doesn't get all gross. A palette would really solve that problem. I wish we had a Pro store here...!

The lipmix refills are pretty affordable, they are only like $8, but the palette they come in is kinda expensive ($26) so it's not really worth the money if you wanted to save some for Back2MAC. They are just *slowly* selling out the old stock. One thing to worry about with the lip mix palette is the lipsticks get dry and kinda icky faster than they would in a tube. I personally prefer regular lipsticks, and only use my palette when I'm custom-making colors.
