Which iPod to get? Thinking of getting a Mini rather than a Nano

Is that silly? I prefer the 'original' look of the Mini and the Nano doesn't appeal to me as much, it's quiet strange really as i should be wanting the Nano being a product designer who should want the newest, latest technology! I know Mini's are out of production but they're still available in shops, just hope i can get a colour i like.
I'm thinking pink..or blue.. Dad reckons silver would be the best choice..but boring? I'm going towards pink more..i hardly have any pink in my life!

IS the mini the same as the shuffle?

I am a bit new to the whole IPod thing. My son has the shuffle and my brother has the Nano and the new video one.

I personally like my son's little shuffle.

My son has a blue mini and my daughter has a pink mini and they love them. My husband just got a black Nano but I prefer the minis.

I think about it this way. a full size regular ipod is like $300 for 40 GB, and a min is $249 for like 4GB.. Id get the fullsize- u'll be better off, it rocks, I love mine...

I have decided to get the black Nano on the thought that the Nano is the latest thing with more features and i may regret getting the Mini when it starts to feel and look dated too soon. I do prefer the look of the Mini's though..so not 100% about my decision yet and am a little worried about scratching/cracking the Nano though it was only one of the first batches that was meant to have a fault leading to cracked screens.
I'm not bothered about space on it, anything that can hold 500 songs is more than enough for me.

Anyone have any tips on buying/using iPods, in particular the Nano? If i don't buy directly from Apple then will i get any kind of help from them if it scratches/cracks/breaks. I am scared of breaking it!

My husband ordered his directly from Apple because the 4GB in black was impossible to find. Apple will laser engrave something on the back of the Nano free of charge. It came from overseas and didn't take very long to get here. I got him a wild skin to cover the Nano because it scratch easily and this way its protected. He really likes it.

Just make sure you buy a cover ASAP .
All of my friends have dropped it or scratched theirs .
Mine still has the plastic cover on the Menu circle -Maybe cause I'm anal and like to take care of my stuff -I know I'm crazy

I hate to be a dumb so-and-so, but what's the difference between the mini and the nano? My dad's got a regular one, and my mum has a shuffle so I know about those but got a bit confused when the nano was released.

The nano can hold images as well as music and is only currently available in 2 or 4 gigs (which is around 240 songs/gig). The main advantage to the nano is the obvious cosmetic one (har har...pun intended) being slim, available in black and in color la la la...which is more than enough reason one would buy it.

The mini came in 5 colors when it was first introduced ( gold, silver, pink, blue, green) and re-introduced in more vibrant colors in 4 shades (pink blue silver green). If I recall, the mini was only 4 gigs and then came available in 6 gigs. It's not in color, and can't hold any images.

I have a 6 gig mini, and I love it. I need more than 4 gigs and two is not enough, and it was cheaper than the nano, and I like the color choices. PLUS, knowing Apple, they're most likely going to release a 6 or 8 gig nano within the next year. I put money on that!

As far as the video ipod goes, if you're going to spend 250 on a nano, go ahead and get the 30gig ipod. TONS more music, picture and video capability, extra cool factor. HTH, if anyone has questions feel free to ask! I was raised with 4 brothers and all are techies, and it sorta rubbed off... can ya tell? hee hee

Also, when buying a cover, I strongly suggest either the rubbery-like ones, or any Agent 18 cases. They're the best!
