here's my Ah-ha mac moment:

after just recently getting into pigments, i m realizing that some are "afraid" of water & liquid/ you cant really apply them wet. they morph into a distastrous & stubborn texture, here's my latest example: green brown.

i lightly wet my 239 brush, then dipped into green brown, and when i was applying it on my crease area and it deposited the color very clumpy and almost unblendable, so my qu is WHY, because this piggie is duochrome??? or something else? can we make a list of other pigments that FREAK OUT when wet? thanks, also post tips if any

too cute!

I have had the same situation with the matte pigments actually. They just don't do it for me. But I don't use water, I used my homemade MM.

Hey!!! What's your homemade mixing medium made of? This sounds interesting!!! I hate mixing pigments with water because its soooo cold when you apply it on LOL i need to start using warm water! How do you guys apply your pigments wet? Any techniques?

I always use a water based MM - I dont use all my piggies wet though. Only the horrible chunky ones like Helium and Golden Lemon etc, but I also use it with Azreal Blue because if I dont the pigment looks powdery and blah.... I like to use it with White pigment as well for the same reason.
Never mixed any of my piggies with water though so I cant say there??

Pastorale & Aire-de-Blu are like that sand stuff you could put under water and it stays dry, I guess it's called Magic Sand, I dunno, but my nieces have it.

This stuff....

has anyone else used fix+ with their pigments? i wanted to use mine wet but don't have any mixing medium, so i just sprayed a bit of fix+ on my brush.

anyway, subtle went on like a DREAM, omg it had this beautiful metallic shine that lasted all day. chocolate brown went on pretty well too. but vanilla did NOT like being damp! i was surprised, but it was impossible to blend. ugh.

that was my first time using pigments wet, i think i'll do it all the time now. no more fallout and much better payoff/staying power!!

3 parts water 1 part glycerin that I bought from Rite-Aid or any drugstore will have it as well.
The only pigments or mineral shadows that work well with water IMO are the Bare Mineral shadows. I love applying them 'cold' as it has a cooling effect. lol
But I use my BE wet and dry brush that is equivalent to MAC's 239 brush and I think these brushes apply pigments well. Because they pack on color. I use the 217 with matte pigments to blend and it does a good job. hth!

I had the same experience with Helium. It was gorgeous wet with MM, but so clumpy! The second I tried to use other shadows, it was just a disaster.

How do you get them to not be clumpy?

^^Um, I really dont know? I've honestly never had this problem with those pigments

I kind of smudge them around in the lid with the brush though before applying so I guess that might make a difference, and I use a really firm brush with them and they go on pretty good. Not like my Subtle which is a dream, but still OK to be useable.

Maybe I'll try it with my 242 and mix it into a paste before I apply. Thanks!

I find that entremauve is horrible when its mixed with water. It runs and streaks, no matter how little water I use. arrrgh
