Why do people not watch their kids?

My boyfriend and I were driving home on 4th of July. We are on the freeway, where it is very dark. And all of of sudden two little boys about 8 and 10 run out of the bushes. They were about to run all the way across the freeway when they saw us, and luckily stopped. They were wearing dark clothing, if it weren't for their shoes we would not have seen them. One of the boys looked very scared. Like, "Oh shit, I could of died just now!" It made my heart jump out of my chest. It was 11 o'clock at night. Why the hell would anybody let their kids run across the freeway that late at night?!?! And that's not the first time we saw that. Another time we saw two boys, about 7 and 8 playing on the side of the freeway. There is a bridge that goes over the freeway to get to the other side. But, why don't people keep tabs on where their kids are? I bet if we hit one of them, that mother would of been jumping down our throat like why did you kill my baby. Just needed to share that. I just dont' understand shit like that.

sigh. It's sad what people consider "parenting" in this age.

Someone was hit and killed near my home recently while crossing a major freeway (IH 35), funny thing was... there was an overpass not 50 feet from where he tried to cross.

Thanks for moving this.

That's what I'm saying. There's a bridge not far from where they were crossing. Just blows my mind. My kids would not be out that late.

I agree completely with you, I do not understand what the parents are doing.

It bothers me sooo much to see stuff like that, I get so scared for the kids, and I feel so mad at whoever their parents are.

Not that they should be overprotective or anything, but really, how can you let your young kids run or be on major roads like that, alone? Even though the kids might be able to make good decisions, they are still just kids and cannot be expected to take total care of themselves! Ahhhh, it really annoys me just thinking about it now

it's sad to think those boys were probably out and about because their parents couldn't deal with them being home and were like, "just got out and play" and yet look where they end up.
honestly, i don't even get why some people even have kids if they lack necessary skills to actually deal with life. shit, if you can't take care of yourself, don't bring someone else into the world.

That is sad, I would say if you see it again- that late -notify the police tell them the address roughly or mile marker, I think *55 will get the highway patrol.

YW, my hubby is a cop.... But even calling 911 you could get a unit sent out, some states have ages for kids being unsupervised, other states its at "maturity level " of the child (preteen age groups) and the discretion of the officer... Some 12 year olds are more mature than a 14 year old. But most places have curfews out here for kids/teens.

Yeah, it happened so fast. But, I think regardless of the age. Nobody should be playing or crossing a freeway/highway.
