MAC stores also occasionally send mailings to their top customers announcing events or collections... so having your info on file can get you an invite or postcard or Christmas card! I've gotten all three from my local stores.

I'm registered on their site and have ordered, but never received a single postcard, invite or anything.

I think I read on MUA one time that they like to keep track of their customers' spending habits, possibly to stay alert to people who buy large quantities of limited edition items to sell on ebay.

They keep a close watch for people who have repeat buying habits, i.e. possibly selling on eBay. If they find out that is happening, they will attempt to ban the person. They also use it to send out occasional invites, brochures etc (I get about 4 a year).

that sucks... so is it cause of the ebay thing that they keep track of it? I read once in the forum that by keeping track of your buying, they know you better or something and are more likely to get samples and invites because they know the MAs so well..

I don't think that you'd get more samples from MA's when you're in the system since they access it after you go shopping. But you never know

They track to keep an eye out for potential re-sellers. They also track for people who make unusual amounts of returns.

Why they keep your name in the computer at MAC

I asked a MA at the MAC pro store today why they kept people's names in the computers. She told me that it also kept a list of what you buy and stuff so in case you didn't remember what color you bought before and wanted to get it again... you wouldnt have to play the gussing game... and they could just look in the computer and check out what color you previously bought..

Its also to see how much you buy, and if you are reselling...Id love to think it was solely for color comparison, but its really not.

When I returned my concealer at a freestanding store (my friend bought me the wrong shade and I didn't have the receipt at the time of my return) they asked for my identification card just and entered it in their system. I asked an MA I know and she said it's normal and it's just to make sure no one abuses their system.

haha they pretend its for our benefit but its for theirs. when my friend bought me a bunch of airbrush paints as a present thinking they were pigments (shes not intune with mac) i went to return them and the lady asked for her named and didnt find it in their system and she seemed so hesitant to allow me to return them but i told her i didnt want money for it i just want to get the right products instead and she was like "oh okay!" hahaha

they mainly just dont want people buying things from ebay at cheap prices and then trying to return them for their retail value and whatnot. things like that. or employees allowing friends to return things that were part of gratis or discounted etc.

I've been buying all this time with my name not on the computer then the last she added me on. But seen as all this time no employees have ever asked if im on the computer or anything i'm guessing that most of my purchases in the future will go unrecorded.

How can they prove someone is reselling? Even if someone buys loads of the same shade can they really accuse them of doing something dodgy? The person could always say that they're stocking up or giving them as presents.
