a few weeks ago i was looking at the mattene collection online on the US/Canadina MAC website because the mattene collection was posted on there, then last week the mattene collection was on the UK website so i was looking at it and noticed a slight difference, and that is that You say tomato is not listed in the UK version of the webiste and when i went to the MAC store i noticed that it wasn't there too..

so i was just wondering why the difference? why aren't the collections the same?

I have been wondering this too. I live in Sweden and some of the regular products don't even make it here. This includes a lot of the pigments, some of the brushes and the pro-pan pallettes. I don't see the point of this at all.

I'm in Japan and it's the same here - a lot of stuff even in the perm. collection never makes it here. AFAIK, there are two main reasons for this:

1) The local staff for EL/MAC who understand each market know which colors/products will sell and which won't. E.g. in Asia, soft and sparkly is popular so that's why the lustrevision stuff (e/s and lippies) is permanent and I hear we won't get the mattene lipsticks.

2) Different countries have different rules and regulations for the materials that make up the products. That's why a lot of skincare etc has to be reformulated for different markets, or certain colors aren't available because of restrictions on certain dyes or colorants. Either the product would have to be reformulated, or the company may have to pay a higher import tax to bring in the product and this is probably not worth it based on the projected sales.

Sucks, but that's globalization for ya

Thanks for the info! I still don't get why pigments like Chocolate Brown, Cornflower and Melon aren't for sale here - they seem like pretty basic colours and the formula can't be that different from other ones. Oh well.
