Working at Myer makeup counters...

Obviously you need "qualifications" to work at any makeup counter at Myer but which qualifications do you need/ would be accepted?

For example; would it be enough to say, get a certificate from a makeup school/academy (such as Adelaides makeup media academy) and a certificate II in retail and possibly certificate IV (4) in buisness management? Would that get me a job at Myer?

TIA!

I work at David Jones for Jurlique, and although i'm a beauty therapist and MUA, not all the girls on other counters have qualifications. I know the last 2 BC's that Estee Lauder employed at my store had no experience in beauty or retail what-so-ever, so that goes to show that you can be anybody and still get the job!

Im not entirely sure. But my fave MA at my local myer MAC counter told me to apply. We have become friends since I started buying MAC.

Anyway, I dont have any qualifications other than hairdressing and retail. She knows this but told me to apply anyway.

Oh and shes the manager of that counter too.

So I guess it varies from location to location.

It varies, but generally the hard and fast rule is supposed to be that you need to at least have a certificate of cosmetic retail to work on a cosmetic counter OR equivalent eperience. Not all states require the certificate yet, but it's 99% likely this will become law in the next couple of years.

My advice is to to get in while the going is good.

I was offered a job at Paddington, but my job schedule is so messed up there's no way I could fit in regular retail hours as well. :/

Hi Ladies,

I am from Melbourne and I am very very keen in working at MAC, as of the moment I have not had any proper training although I know a lot about makeup coz it is a passion of mine but I will be enrolling in the following short courses in Swinburne University:

Day and Night Makeup - a seven-hour, 1 day course
Fashion and Wedding Makeup 1 and 2 - these courses run for 2 months each.

I was just wondering if these courses would be enough for me to get a job in MAC. I have ample experience in fashion retail as well.

Thanks and I'm looking forward to your replies!

Prob not darling i recc. if your really serious to enrol in a proper school that has a more in depth course, I'd hire someone who'd actually spent the time and money on a decent course ove someone who did a 2 day course, its just the way it goes.
