Would You Be Concerned If

The Batch Code on your MAC product that you just purchased ended in a 6, meaning it was made in 2006? Or are the products fine until you open them, and then the 24 month toss rule goes into effect?

great question. i would think that it the clock would start once the product is made (kinda like food- u would use milk that had only been in ur fridge for a day and expired 2 days ago, right?) but its makes sense that it wouldnt start counting down until after the first use cause thats when the contamination that ruins the product happens. Ugh I have no idea. But I know the waxes will break down no matter when u start using it. Yeah still no clue...

i guess for powder things it is ok, i just bought a hepcat that was made in sept '06.

i called their customer service about a couple of cream blushes and i was told that the usual lasting time is whatever is on the container plus a year...

As long as it has not been opened it should be ok. Powder products can be ok over the 24 months as long as it is stored properly.

unopened mac products have a shelf life of 3-4 years. then, once the product is opened, the date on the box is a good guideline to go by.

well i have some that are older than that, but i'm not too concerned. could be because i mainly use mac for their eyeshadows. lipsticks/lipgloss - yea i would be. but i always smell for that vanilla scent.

but i think the date could matter for liquid products - like foundations? just a thought :p i don't think i'd be comfy with using really old foundation lol

i got a jar of green brown pigment from a pro store a few months ago, and the batch code says AB3. i thought about returning it, but could not find the receipt, so i kept it. so far i haven't had any problem with it

I find that my powder products stay good if stored properly in moisture free environment and wiped after each use,... I have a limit and a phase eyeshadow in the screwtops still perfect and working like new. Now lip products are a different story. I bought a soft and slow what a couple months ago and I opened it last week and it reeked. I don't think I even used that three times. I guess it just depends,.. once opened go by the packaging and also by smell bc it could go bad sooner.

I returned a Studio Tech because it cracked after just a few weeks. The MA told me that sometimes product gets misplaced, then reshelved. She looked at and said "It's old" even though I just bought it. It happens.

I've recently gotten products from 06 from our Mac store. I know they restock often so they must be coming from the factory with that date.
I never noticed them to be icky.

I was told that if your product goes south within a resonable amount of time..to return it and get a new one. Things happen. If you can't get help at the counter, call CS at Maccosmetics.com

Powder products are way different from liquid and emollient products. I've been using some eye shadows for even longer than that.

Even for liquid and cream products?
