I want nudes for the lips

I'm not talking about nudes like myth or creme d' nude, Im talking about 90's era lips. Browns, browns, browns... and LIPLINER!

It would be amazing (for me at least lol)

It's an area I've always been leery of. Film Noir is great, but I find you can get away with vampy lips in colours that don't always work otherwise. Most other brown lipsticks make look dead. (And, since I'm always professing my love of vampy lips, let me add: not dead in a good way.)

I don't know if anyone can be dead in a good way..lol. But, the trend will be your friend again -- these are the browns that are coming back -- most are sheer and matte (I know it sounds incongruous, but the technology is way better now and there are sheer mattes, sheer matte glosses too).. love it

I think this pink would work for you if you liked Angel.

I don't think Angel would be repromoted this coming year -- there are a LOT of pink blushes (cream, powder) coming to market.. and they are all a bit/ or a lot brighter than Angel

Sheer, matte glosses sound fantastic!

I'm very fair and cool-toned and browns really aren't my friend. I was able to be fashionably made-up through the brown period of the late 80s - early 90s though so I'm sure I'll manage. Now that I'm older, darker shades and colours that clash with my skin tone look even harsher on me but sheerer product technology helps a lot. It's not going to be as matte a look as it was back then is it?

JUICY FLOCKED LIPS!!!

For all those ladies wondering if brown will work for you.....if it's MAC, you can count on enough shades coming out that one will be perfect for you. Nudes and browns are picky and subtle but when you find a good one for your lip color and skin tone, it can be a thing of beauty (that Linda Evangelista pic up above is such a great example). There are cool shades of brown as well as warm. Also, the more pigmented your lips, the more you will need to go with a color with the right undertone to neutralize them, without clashing with your general skin tone.

Example: Someone with red lips and olive skin could wear a golden brown, where the gold will deal with the red but harmonize with the olive complexion. Someone with red lips and pale NW skin would be better with a milky/silvery brown where the milkiness will cancel the lips but not add a weird cast to the skin. Someone with pale NC skin and red lips would be best with a slightly greenish or bluish brown (what we often think of as "dirty"), where the undertone is yellow enough to cancel the red, but still with enough blue to not make the skin look sallow. If you've got light colored lips, your job will be easier, so go to town. With these rules you can go darker or lighter, more or less opaque, and you'll still be good.

Just for an example, I'm NC15 with red lips & dark hair and the browns that looked best on me from this year are Fancy Cat l/g (dark, semi-sheer, cool, dirty), Call My Bluff l/s (mid-tone, medium-opaque, neutral grey cast) and You've Got It csl/g (light, milky, sheer, silvery - the sheerness is ok here because the milkiness and sheen layer over the red lips, rather than merging with it).

So don't be afraid of brown, but don't rush into the wrong brown just because it's there. It'll only be a matter of time before your HG brown will show up this year! And if that doesn't convince you - just think back to the days when you thought coral was a weird color on you! How many nice corals do you have now, just a year later? I rest my case

Sheer matte glosses?!? That sounds AWESOME! I can't wait to see what they're all about.

I'm a little more scared about browns, but I'm sure I'll give them a try. Having lived through the Brenda Walsh/90210 thick brown matte lip phase, nothing can be quite that bad, right?

Thanks very much for this, Liba. It's very educational to know how the different types of browns can complement different skin tones. It sounds like you and I have fairly similar colouring and I have found that the colours you mention work on me as well. So I'm officially putting my cynicism on hold, because, as you say, if it's Mac, chances are they are going to come up with shades that can work for a variety of skin tones.

oh well, it´s not like I do not have other blushes, just this one was my absolute favourite. I now have Pink Swoon and also bought Dandelion and Azalea Blossom, but the latter I have not used yet. Currently I`m using various NYX-Shades because they are a good way to test many different colours for a longer time, but not so expensive. However, these are not "cool" enough, for example Natural and NYX's Angel. Their bright pink shade I have yet to try.

The perfect pink blush for my complexion is a shade by Face Stockholm, called Organza. It´s a cool blueish milky opaque light bright pink (if that makes any sense); only the quality is not MACs and some of the ingredients are not so nice (Formaldehyde-derivatives for example). So that kind of colour by MAC would be fantastic, too. Also that discontinued L'Oreal Blush Delicieux in Pink Marshmallow was a grand cold bright pink of which I have not managed to find a similar shade in HE.
There are a lot of pretty pinks, both by MAC and also for example by parent/sister-companies like Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown, only most are slightly too warm.

It might be due to skin-chemistry, but as there was just discussed in TT, that the liners show up differently depending on the person, blushes that are just a hair too warm in the pan turn really_warm on my skin. Also for example Blooming, which came out pinkish for many, on me it turned bronzey-coppery-reddish, not so optimal. So the colour to start with needs be really cool in order to turn out right on the skintone.

When there are going to be released many pinks, hopefully some of them are going to fit my pattern

I also did not manage to get the Hark-The-Heraldry-Kit (already sold out) so I'll have money to save for later MAC-Blushes

I always get so happy when I find a workable nude. As liba said, I'm an NC15 and I too can wear Call My Bluff and You've Got It. I like Fresh Brew for a more 60s look. Faerie Glen is so far the only fleshtone I can wear (the others are more brown). I have to agree that finding the right nude is really hard, but once you do, it's magic. Sheer matte nudes could either look really awesome, or look cakey like Velvet Teddy does on me.

Dang, now I wanna put some on! But I only have Devilishly Stylish in my purse...
