What age did you lovely ladies get engaged?

Have you considered a promise ring? I think engaged means "we are planning a wedding", whereas accepting a promise ring, means in the future your partner is going to ask you to marry them and you two will get married. It's a nice extra step of commitment when you are young and still developing who you are while knowing that you want to marry each other. I was engaged at 32 and married 10 months later; having been in the committed relationship for 6.5 years; living together for 4.5 years. I think it may be nice to do a promise ring now, with the intent o getting engaged at or around college graduation, then in a full steam ahead approach start planning the wedding then.
Anyways, why rush to fiance when having a boyfriend visit you at college is so much sexier to say??!!!

so im in a dilemma, please dont think bad of me. but id really love to get engaged (im 16). yes it may seem young to people and i completely understand thats why iv chosen to wait a little while. i have been with my boy friend nearly three years, we get on great, we see eachother every week. we both have our own thing like he has work hes an engineer and im going to college to do beauty. i feel i am ready and mature enough to take the next step, i was wondering what everyone though and how old everyone was when they got engaged? thanks everyone

I would suggest living with him for a few years before getting married. You find out what he's actually like after spending 24/7 with him. :)

This. You learn so much more about a person when you live with them.
you guys are both so right! i lived with nick for 4 years before we got married! we both learnt so much more about each other in this period - some good and some bad. i don't think i could have done what my parents did - they didn't live together until after they were married!!

I've been with my boyfriend for about 5 years now. We don't want a long engagement (personal feelings about other people's speculations), but we already feel as if we are married. I'm one year away from finishing my Master's degree, and he is already established working. Once I'm done with school and start to work as well, I will be happy to say YES YES YES!

41, married at 42 first marraige for both and it will be our 5th anniversary in two weeks but we have been together for 10 years! I think later is better, you are more mature then and know a lot more and can put a lot more into the relationship, just my opinion!

I think it's better when you're older as you're more mature and your character has developed completely. I spent 11 years with my first boyfriend (from the age of 16) and he wanted to marry real young. But suddenly he left me on my 27th birthday for another person (underage!) and that was that! I'm now a completely different person, I don't feel at all like when I was 16-23 more or less. I matured, my character changed and my ex dumping me on my birthday changed me! Now I'm 30, living with my boyfriend but no marriage plans yet, he's younger than me so he has to warm up to the idea, lol!

I agree, BOYS, and they are just that, have to mature for a while, they need to catch up to us to even consider a real relationship. Women mature faster in body and in brain......lol
