MAC Early Buzz - news on products for 2012

I couldn't agree more. We as customers have an enormous power if we choose to wield it. If we're really unhappy with a brands policy, either because we don't like that MAC churns out one collection after the next or that UD chose another animal testing policy, we just can convince them via withholding our money.

Tx Naynadine! I'm loving the lip palettes. I wish they would be avail on the regular MAC online site. I can never find them. I'm also liking the new blushes even though I can't make them out too well. I can't wait to find out more about the Fall/Winter collections & upcoming products.

When I was younger I never truly understood the saying "Money is the root of all evil." The older I get, the more I understand it. It's sad when money is chosen over ethics but, in this day and age what can you expect. I truly hope that China reconsiders these mandatory animal testing laws.

They must think we are idiots.


On second thought, I don't think it will have much influence on their sales in the US and Europe. It would be nice, however, if they simply stated that in order to stay competitive, they need to enter the Chinese market, and therefore must oblige to animal testing. But the above quotation is just public relations BS.

its is in the works to stop animal testing in china just so you all know. we got briefed about it. but that is all i can actually say about it. a few brands have come together to work with the chinese government to change the policy an show them that the products do not need to be tested on animals. if you all stop buying the brand that test on animals then i guess all you all will stop buying MAC products and stop wearing them as well. so that is is whole lot of shopping to replace all your collection

I do hope China realizes that animals are living and feeling creatures as we humans are. There shouldn't be animal testing done at all, but at the same time, I do realize a lot of companies do practice this. Not just cosmetic companies. It's a lot out there and I don't know when and if it will ever stop.

I don't follow your second point though; if consumers decide on a go-forward basis to stop buying from MAC or any other brand that is now selling to China (and by default testing on animals), I don't see how that would lead to them feeling the need to discard all the products purchased from the company in the past when they were not testing on animals. It's the go forward policy that's the issue, not the former policy.

I haven't done much research into this issue so I really don't know whether the brands I purchase do or don't test on animals. So this shift to selling in China isn't likely to sway my behaviour. Having said that, if this was an issue I was passionate about I would alter my go forward purchasing, but I woudln't see any reason to get rid of the products I purchased before the policy changed. Those weren't produced during a time when animal testing was happening, so keeping them wouldn't be a crisis of conscience for me and would have absolutely no impact to MAC. Future purchases are a different story. For that reason, I don't think that stop buying = stop wearing.

I do hope the policy in China changes; when it does and the changes are final and implemented it will be a good thing.

The Chinese have a rather poor record of animal welfare, probably mostly due to the complete lack of legislation for it in law. If an individual doesn't get punished for inhumane treatment of an animal, there's nothing to deter them or others from doing it again. I seriously doubt that there'll be major changes anytime soon, regardless of how many cosmetic companies rally behind the cause. It'll be a long, slow process. There are plenty of people in China who are against animal cruelty, and many of them (academics, celebrites, the common person etc.,) have tried to lobby the government into putting animal welfare laws into place, to no avail.

Your English was perfect! I don't really see where the motivation is for the Chinese government to stop animal testing, at the moment at least. Their economy is booming, whereas others are in crisis. These cosmetics companies have accepted the government's requirements for testing, bringing more money and jobs into the economy. Hopefully, over time, the companies will be able to exert pressure and lobby for a change in the law regarding cosmetics. Believe me, I'd love it if this happened!

I'm glad my english was correct. I've been improving my english so much from this forum, which is very nice! I believe other countries have already been pushing on china changing their laws because they're behind, so that's why i was thinking they might change their minds.

I understand why you feel that way about UD. I always thought it was really important to them to be cruelty free, but i'm not really sure about that anymore.

BTW the new mascara from MAC (extended play or something) SUCKS BUTT!
I'm gonna return it cos it really is hideous! It doesnt keep curl, its super hard once it dries... its the hardest to remove (even though I think it's not waterproof)

did anybody else try it?
