MAC So Reel / Reel Sexy discussion

Reel Sexy has turned out to be my #1 lipstick this spring/summer. 'Wouldn't have expected it, but it's just so bright and cute and really matches a lot of clothes I've been wearing (I guess I've been really 60's mod lately). I wore it out at night more than in the daytime, but it got plenty of day love just patted a bit into the lip, rather than applied full force.

I've worn it on it's own and also with In Synch, Lasting Sensation and Temperature Rising lip pencils.

I thought it would be a tougher one to pull off than Jazzed, which I didn't get a ton of use out of, but somehow, I found myself reaching for it whenever I wanted a mega-bright lipstick. I love CYY and all my other hot pinks and pink corals, but this year I just felt a little over lip shades that were too pink - I wanted bright PLUS apricot coral and Reel Sexy was it.

I didn't back it up, but I still have plenty for now - by the time I run out entirely, maybe MAC will bring it back or something similar, like this one was the evolution of Jazzed.

I think Coygirl was d/c'd earlier this year. You might still be able to find it at a f/s store or counter. Good luck!
i bought a backup of it once i heard it was getting let go. the girls at my counter had no idea. i'm actually thinking of selling it though, Weddings are expensive! lol

Reel Sexy has been my fave so far this year. I dab it on and it gives just the right amount of color.

Reel Sexy is a beautiful color that I own also but if u want sonething kinda similar with a different finish and slightly pinker try Coral Bliss from the Creamsheen + Pearl collection, its sheer, buildable color with a slight shimmer and a lustre finish :)

It's that amplified finish of Reel Sexy that clinches it for me. I've got Jazzed and it really is exactly the same color, but being a Cremesheen totally changes it up on me and makes it not quite as nice. I think that because my lips are red, the sheerer the color, the more it needs more apricot/coral/yellow in it and less pink to give the same look. Case in point: I rock Sheer Mandarin Sheen Supreme and that one looks practically yellow in the tube. I also have the right skin tone for Playing Koi and Salute to work as good nudes for me, while they're pretty tough for some other folks to pull off.

I couldn't find a lipstick from Cremesheen + Pearl that really popped on me. Rising Sun csg is just stunning from that collection for me, though - I tried it on and instantly bought it!

Come to think of it, that one's pretty darn apricot too!

Did you expect it to be? I figured my most used was going to be Pink Popcorn or Party Parrot, but that 'ole Reel Sexy overtook them both.

Not at all.. When I first bought them I was drawn to all of the other colors in the collection but I've used Reel Sexy waaay more than the others. I even bought a backup just in case I run out.

I have to agree with you 100%! I absolutely love bright peachy-corals and this is the perfect shade for me. I find it to be quite versatile for such a bright shade. I did purchase one BU but now I'm beginning to think I should have backed up one more. I'm sure MAC will bring it back soon though!

'Glad you ladies got your BUs!

I think I'll survive without an extra one for now, but I bet this type of color will be in next spring as a way of continuing the bright trend while moving on from pinks. (I also think extremely neutral, sheer MLBB colors will be popular in spring, but MAC does well with their brights and pastels, so they'll come up with something for that audience too).

If I didn't already love, love, love Crosswires and Fanfare, I would probably be all up on the Reel Sexy train with you there. As it turns out, Star Quality csg has been the shining star of this collection for me. I am saving Heroine for a nice Fall day so it could replace SQ as my favorite though.

Star Quality is gorg! I love it much more than Meteoric. I was especially crazy for Private Screenings, of all things. It happens to be the perfect peach nude for me. I backed that baby up - won't need any other similar glosses for a while.

Color Saturation is amazing too. It's so awesome I keep rationing it for no rational reason, considering it's still on the site.

Whenever I hear about RS, I wonder if I should have tried it on my lips. I assumed it wouldn't work (too light/opaque) but I hear a lot of WOC giving it love so I wonder if I missed out on something major! I need to pull out my goodies from this collection - I think with all thte awesome releases this year, things are quickly falling to the wayside in my collection! And not because they're not awesome! There's just too much awesomeness, if that's possible. ;) I think I only wore Star Quality once, which just ain't right.....

I wore RS to work today and I actually think it could be too neon for me. I was afraid it looked like the orange gunk from a bag of cheetoes stuck to my lip. Then again, it could just be the florescent lighting at work. Must re-evaluate with natural lighting conditions...

This collection was just so massive, I still haven't tried everything I hauled yet

There sure was a massive amount of stuff in this one. I resisted all the shadows and blushes, but I went to town on the lipsticks and csgs and the eye pencils! So far, it's still just squeaking by as my favorite collection this year, for the tightly edited, avant guard color story as well as the uniqueness of the best products in it. Plus I adored all the promo photos and that weird ass, creepy promo film with Kristen McMenamy. I think it'd be easy to call it the sexiest collection this year - for all the freaky hot punk mamas wearing sunglasses after dark.

When it comes to RS, I think it's workable on deeper skin tones if you generally do well with warmer colors. It's definitely neon as hell if you apply it full strength - I've seen my lips practically glowing even in dark clubs with it. The trick for wearing it during the day is to just do a light layer, then pat the color into your lips with your fingertips, rather than blotting, which doesn't fuse the color into your lips the way the warmth of your fingers do. Once you've done a patted layer, you have the option to do another light layer or more. It's excellently buildable and controllable like this.

Hell, if it doesn't work for you that way, just PM me and I'll take it off your hands!

I bought R S and luuuv it!!! Now I won't lie I have different ways 2 apply this... For day Ill go light by patting it on spariingly n maybe adding a bead of clear lipglass... For night Ill put on full-strength maybe a lil lipglass maybe not lol... Either way a peachy/bronzy blush like Peachtwist follows :)

You're my RS application twin!

I totally agree with you it looks best with peachy or bronze cheeks. I'll wear it with Immortal Flower over bronzer like Goldstone msf or with Glorify all over the cheeks.

Then, I usually use bright blue or teal liner - smudgey and thick or winged out - or bright but sheer shadow like Crushed Metal Pigments or the Electric Cool shadows in neutrals, pinks, teal, blue or coral without liner but with lots of mascara. Or just massive black 60's eyes!

LOL, I even just started browsing evilbay to see what sort of highway robbery I'd be the victim of if I wanted a BU.

Edit: When I've worn gloss over it, I particularly love Force of Love lg and Star Quality csg. Private Screening csg tones it down a bit, but I usually would rather wear that one on its own. YAY REEL SEX
