I'm 5'8, but up until my early twenties I was over 5'9. At 21 I was diagnosed with an immune deficiency called Vasculitis. It attacked both my kidneys, so I was put on dialysis immediately. By the way, my only symptom was nose bleeds. Well, the numerous medications, including steroids caused me to shrink...which was really weird. Being on dialysis was awful, though. Just about everything I ate made me nauseous even after my kidney diet was restrictive. Dialysis made it difficult for me to be a full time student and have a full time job. I had many complications because of the kidney failure. I was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation, which affects women most of the time, but is not that serious. For me, though, since my kidneys did not work, the blood would go into my lungs and make it difficult for me to breathe until I had a dialysis session. That heart problem made me an insomniac for over a year because I could not lay down. When I finally had my heart surgery to repair my mitral valve there were many complications. As a result of the heart surgery, I ended up losing all feeling and movement below the knee of my right leg. I eventually had an amputation, after I was told I had an incurable infection, two years later on New Year's Eve, 2009. I'm 29 now and received my kidney transplant last November from a cadaver kidney. A 35 year old man in Bakersfield, CA was in a motorcycle accident and passed away. That man died, but he also saved my life. I was fortunate to be the donor recipient. Before the transplant I was average, but since the transplant my hair has thinned a lot and I've gained close to forty pounds because I've had a lot of complications and the dosages of my anti-rejection medications are constantly changed.
The way I see it, though, I'd rather be balding and fat than be on dialysis. Even though I've had so many medical and physical challenges, my escape has been makeup and school. I'm a poli sci major and am a freelance makeup artist when I am out of school, mostly working with performance artists that I know here in LA.
I don't know why I shared this info, but I just want to let you all know that we are all powerful people with a common interest. We're all individuals. We've all overcome challenges. We don't let a bad situation, no matter how big or small, define us. We become better people and we live our lives as best we can. Lou, along with all you ladies is an example of that.
An amazing story. Thanks for sharing.

LMFAO!!! EXACTLY!! I think the lowest I go is a chunky wedge. It's actually really funny how natural I walk in heels. My eye always goes straight to any woman that seems to be struggling with the art... Now, on the other end of the spectrum... you put me in flats, UGGS, or tennis shoes... I'm a stumbling, bumbling MESS! I trip over my own feet! I'm a sight to behold at the gym!
When I get old, I'm going to have to have orthopedic heels! HeeHee wink
Sigh, this would be me. I just can't get the hang of it. I keep buying heels with the mindset that I'm going to be able to walk in them some day. But the sidewalk and street feel a lot different under my feet than when I'm practicing walking around in my house. Next thing I know, my ankles keep buckling every which way. That's not cute. I'm too shy to practice outside in front my neighbors. I know what I'm supposed to do in theory, but it doesn't work well in practice.

FLIP FLOPS TILL I DIE!!!!!

But if I must, I will bust out in some heels and definitely will try not to bust my arse in the process. Usually I'm pretty good at the heels but I'd rather my toes be free.

I was never into heels till this year. So I struggle a little bit lol. But I'm only 5'1" so I love to feel longer with my short stubby legs. I love me some tall boots mostly. My hubbs is only 5'5" so I try not to wear heels to much haha Thus is totally off subject but this is active. I was wondering if someone can do a cp for Estee Lauder violet underground quad and violet crush lipstick. I can only use pay pal and nothing accepts it. :( On topic: I searched google for a while and still didn't find the color story :( blah. Sucks we have to wait another month for swatches to start showing up :( I'm dying to see that purple lippy!

The only time I will think of seriously trying heels is once I start driving. Walking on city pavement and taking public trans in heels is not a good look. I love my flats and I'm tall, so I'm not dying to get the hang of it. I did just buy a pair of those funky hidden wedge sneakers, though. They're Nikes with a three inch wedge. So dope and so easy to walk in.

I love tall boots! I try to get away with wearing them as often as I can in SD. I bought a new pair over the summer and I can't wait to wear them....too bad it's 107* in SD!

BTW - sending you a PM re: EL stuff.

I've been fine with heels up until this year - I don't know what's going on, but suddenly, the bottoms of my feet have been really tender and shoes that used to be just fine to walk around in now cause me huge pain in 10 minutes. I've got all these great shoes just languishing while I keep busting out the same old boring flats.

I had a bout of plantar faciitis a couple of years ago and didn't wear heels for many months, but my feet have been fine since. I guess not fine enough :( Is this what happens when you get old, hehe?

I'm all about flats. I wore flats at my wedding because even though heels would be nicer to look at, I am NOT graceful. At all. When I was much lighter they were a smidge easier to walk in but really, I just look silly and unbalanced. So yeah, flats for me.

these days i wear flats pretty much all the time. i live in the city, and it's not practical to wear heels to walk half an hour to work!
it makes me a little sad for my heels in the closet, but during the winter i take a few to work to switch out of my winter boots when i get to the office!

Ok so ladies this is like two collections combined into on BIG collection for holidays right? One being the GLAMOUR DAZE COLOUR COLLECTION and the other being the HOLIDAY GIFT SETS? This is what I'm understanding.... so it makes my list making of what to buy more easier - stuff I wanna pick as individuals from the promo image of that gorgeous lady and what sets I want to pick from the gift sets - argh way too much is going on with MAC LOL!

I think so! I never like any of the holiday sets, but the pink lipglosses and some of the e/s palettes are calling to me!

love heels, love flip flops equally. My mom was probably wearing stilettos when she gave birth so wearing them is in my blood! Plus we are short i am barely 5'1

I am from Cali so flip flops are also a must. I wear flats and heels to work and there are always a multitude of shoes (flats, heels, flip flops) in my trunk. I started this when I lived on the east coast. I learned to be ready for an event at the drop of a dime. In fact, that's what started my serious interest in make up. If I needed to become instantly glam, I had to have the RIGHT products with me at all times. no time for guess work! it all started with a glowy cheek, lashes for days and the perfect gloss....

(mac golden bronze loose powder, L'oreal voluminous mascara and viva glam V gloss...ahhhh the memories!!!!)
