Last year, when something sold out, weeks later, inventory would be restocked in most retailed stores, where the restock will probably sitting there for weeks.
example blog's collection (if i remember correctly), it doesn't sell well after the restock and I still see them in MAC. i don't know whether this is part of the reason they reduce the quantity of stocks for new collections this year. Apparently having most things sold out is always better than having overstock in sense of business.
I personally don't like stalking, it consumes time and energy, i don't like to go through the stress I had with mm collection. there may be a point i would say enough is enough.
I really hope they can stick to one standard date for on line release as much as possible.(if it is not time)

Whether to check the back ground of pro, I personally don't have much concern on that since I do know some people who are stand alone make up artist (eg. the person who did my wedding dinner make up), which i don't know if it is practical for them to provide proof....

1) Limit quantities to 2 and disallow subsequent orders (their systems should certainly be able to do that)
- this may help, except I think 3 is acceptable which includes bu and it should be applied to retailers as well. 6 is too many, i hope they can cut it half (1 self, 1 or 2 back up or for friend). i don't know how people tell the ebay sellers are pro (not to say there are no pro, I believe there are some pros, employee or wholesale dealer), but base on my "instinct" being in ebay since 2003 (all these new sellers and highly marked price), I kind of have a strange feeling there could be a good number of them not limited to pro...but non pro...? so, in a way, I think the standard should be applied to all...
on line purchase, i actually prefer to buy from some stores (for tax saving, sorry ....to say this), so it frustrates me that it sells out this fast at retailers, unlike before....where the inventory will last for days.....

2) Limit early launch quantities and leave most of the stock for the regular online release.

Yes to this

Mac Live Chat kills me. I feel like a police detective and whoever I'm chatting with can neither confirm nor deny when answering my questions!

At my Nordstroms, here in Maryland, I was told that I could preorder (and did, two of the Lavish rose gloss sets) but they would not be released until November 8th. I don't know what their stock will be like but this store is usually pretty busy. Since I cannot get there until after work on Thursday the 25th, I am not sure what I will find in stock.

But the prices are pretty high and I cannot get everything I want right now. So I will try to cut down my list since I will want to buy MAC perm stuff at the Nordstrom holiday party.
Nordstrom holiday party?

the Nordstrom holiday party!!!!!!!! Once a year (usually late November or early December) they close the story early for a private holiday party. Level 2, 3 and 4 Fashion Reward members are invited to attend, along with their +1's. There's music, drinks and food. Some items are on sale but you can earn 10 points per dollar for ANYTHING you purchase that night! I usually bring my BF or BFF and buy a lot of perm items, holiday outfits or gifts. I earn a good amount of Nordstrom notes every year.

Oh, I see. I don't have a Nordstrom card so I can't attend. And for some weird reason I was reading your post like it was the intro of a fairytale.

My local MAC (not a Pro shop) puts the new collections out in a back room which is visible from the main floor. So i come in or call to check if one is there. Then i test the colors and pre-order - they also take pre-orders by phone.

It used to be that they put my credit card number on the page with my pre-ordered items, then they'd charge me when i picked up my stuff. But a while back I was told MAC requires pre-payment - my shop has been doing this for - i forget - over a year. They put your purchase on a "gift card" that they keep in the bag with the products they pull. When the release is official, i go in and get my goodie bag.

WIth Marilyn, there was VERY limited pre-ordering because the demand was so CRAZY. But most of the time it's not a problem. The only trick is that my local MAC often only gets 3 of an item, and usually not more than 5, so i have to get there early because sometimes an item is sold out in the shop even before the official release.

They often get very few permanent items, too. I still haven't been able to test the Cremesheen + Pearl collection properly, because they sold out of many items within the first month and haven't been restocked. They said it often takes 3 months before they get a restock, so it will be a while yet. Heck, they are often completely out of MAC's terrific Wipes for months!

Dang. I just checked.... I don't think I'm a Level 2 yet. Not sure how to figure it out but I think I'm right below that level. Dang.

So one of my dear friends who works at a MAC counter in California called me last night. She was telling me that surprisingly not a lot of people had been putting pre-orders in for this collection. She said that she feels most of the customers prefer to see swatches first and that she doesn't have any swatches to show yet....disappointing! She also mentioned that they only got in 4 of the pink individual blushes....sorry forgot the name....yet that blush to her was the prettiest of the 3. I asked her about the fluidlines, she said they are to die for. I told her that i've been on the fence about it and she said i can always first line my eye with a pencil liner and then use the fl to line over it. It's a good idea because i'm not great at applying any gel or liquid eyeliner eventhough i love them.

Finally she mentioned something coming out only on black friday from 12am-4am which has a blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, and other things. I was like whaaaattttt. i need to make sure i am there! lol. Anyways just wanted to share that with you all. Have a great day everyone!

I've been thinking about getting MAC's brush roll. I think a brush roll is how I would prefer to store my brushes permanently and not just for traveling. I don't think I want to keep my brushes out in the open. It looks really pretty when I see pics/videos of people's makeup areas, but I don't want my brushes exposed. I currently just keep them in the brush pocket of my little makeup bag from Target. But they're now outgrowing that space. I was hoping to find a pretty but durable brush roll to store them. The Marcel Wanders brush clutch looks pretty, but I want to place my brushes into individual slots so I can quickly see them.
I have far too many brushes to permanently store in the brush roll and I'm not sure you'll be able to store your 15 ++ and growing brush collection in it either. You might be able to, depending on the types of brushes that you have. I use about 15 brushes per makeup application, and I'm certain I've taken as many, if not more on trips now that I think about it. I store my significant amount (too embarrassed to divulge) of brushes in a square basket with compartments filled with river rocks/pebbles to help them stand. It's just easier access to have them on top of my makeup center. I use a compartment for face brushes, a compartment for eye brushes and in compartments on either side of the eye brushes I store a bottle of brush cleaner and a bottle of
Fix +. I use a clear shower cap (the kind you get from a hotel stay) as a dust cover. It's not too bulky, it stretches to fit over the brushes and I can still see and admire the brushes underneath. I also have an assortment of the short version of brushes from the permanent line and several sets from collections that are great for travel. I store them in a similar manner for easy access, because I do use them on a regular basis as well.

If your collection continues to grow, and I suspect with a reasonable degree of certainty that it WILL (said one addict to another

), you're going to need more than one brush roll in which to store your brushes.
