MAC Grey Friday Collection Discussion (November 2012)

Thank you Pinkdollface and everyone!

I haven't tried it with a make-up remover that comes in two layers, but I have tried removing it with the Almay eye make-up removers that's oil based. It seems to break down the color faster than a regular make-up wipe.

Depending on my mood too, I like to mix up the color, but whenever I use Candy Yum-Yum or OCC Anime and I still want that pink to remain I like using the Process Magenta Chromagraphic pencil from MAC.
Makeup wipes are nice for face and eye makeup and lighter lipcolours, but indeed they don't work as well for bright lipcolours.

I should experiment more changing up the lipstick with a lipliner. It just is so much easier to take something that's the same colour and not have to worry about it blending in well. Process Magenta looks very nice as well, but I already have Embrace Me (+3 BU's) so I think I'm good

I'll keep it in mind if I ever happen to run out of EM.

Here are the lip pencil comparison swatches. Latte and Sweet Bean are pearlized. I'm not sure if the difference between Stone and 1000 Years is coming across in the picture. Stone looks more taupe in person. It seems like a matte version of Sweet Bean when I look at the colors on my hand.

Thank you so much for this! The difference between 1000 Years and Stone is quite obvious, so I'm glad a lovely Specktrette is CPing me two

Thanks for your list!

I was in an ULTA recently and picked up the last Black Berry on your recommendation - haven't tried it with Grey Friday yet. ULTA doesn't carry all colors, as you've said, so no 1000 Years. And all the other colors were so picked over, they had maybe half of the colors they had slots for, if that. I almost picked up Purple Rain because it looked like a light cool violet - but i read in another thread that it's close to MAC Magenta on, which surprised me, since it looked metallic light violet in the stick. Sigh.

I did find out that an ULTA will be opening not far from where i actually live early next year. But i wish i could find some store that carries all 60 NYX slim lip pencils so i could see them i person.
Try checking a local beauty supply store to see if they carry NYX products. I really wish Ulta would incorporate testers. I think it would cut down drastically on all of the picked over makeup, and would probably save them more money in the long run. I have 40 of the 60 pencils.

I bought them all over time in person between my beauty supply store and Ulta. I couldn't swatch any of them before purchase. Some of them are a hair lighter or darker from each other, others look different from what I expected based on the color reference on the pencil. I'll probably end up getting the remaining 20. I like the variety and they remind me of colored pencils.

I found myself thinking if I got NYX Sweet Bean liner and used it all over the lip, then topped it with a dazzleglass like, say, Via Venetto, would I really need to knock myself out to find a Grey Friday lippy? (which I slept through and missed)

My two lip combos for this color:

Currant liner to line then smudge out, Grey Friday all over, Fascinating eye pencil smudged on the bottom center.

Grey Utility eye pencil to line then smudge out, Grey Friday all over, Fascinating eye pencil smudged on the bottom center.

The grey utility eye liner is awesome! It helps the sheer-ness and also lasts so long! I get so many compliments.

Side note: I'm not a huge fan of the shimmer on this product BUT I like it because it's a great building color to transform any lip to that vampy look. It's awesome!

I think you are very right. There were actually two Black Berry pencils in the slot, but i looked before i took, and one had clearly been "tested", so i got the last "pristine" one. The ULTA i was in actually had testers for some NYX products, i definitely recall the foundations having testers. But there were so many other beat-up items that people had been trying, often more than one of the same color, smooshed and smashed, especially some creamy color sticks - can't recall exactly what they were - squashed into their transparent caps.

Have you seen the swatches on the NYX website? http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/p-117-slim-lip-pencil.aspx
I've been wondering how accurate they are, and now i have something to compare to them. Thank you again for the swatches!

AND i have figured out how to photograph myself using my lap top, since i can't see what i'm doing using my camera, so i may get a photo up in a day or two.

Actually, NYX has a black eyeliner pencil with silver glitter in it - Slim Eye Pencil in 'Black Glitter' (SPE940) - and i even thought about getting THAT to use with Grey Friday - although i don't know if it's lip safe.

I thought Latte and Sweet Bean were jumbo eye pencils, and I think I tried to use Latte on my eye as a cream e/s before, no wonder it creased like crazy and was greasy as sin.

Who wanted Grey Friday? I accidentally duplicated my order because I received a "your card didn't go through" and a "we cancelled your order" email from MAC at the same time and panicked.

NYX has multiple products with the same name. Latte and Sweet Bean are Slim Lip Pencils, but NYX as a multitude of products called Iced Mocha, for both lips and eyes.
