Vellum's always struck me as a bog standard highlight shade so I never even bothered swatching it. It obviously has a lof of fans though! What makes Vellum different from the gazillion other highlight shades out there? Inquiring minds would like to know!

It's a white/blue-purple duochrome. It's booty-ful! Great with other blue-based purples and dark blues too! I personally don't use it, nor do i recommend it to be used, as a brow bone highlight, due to it having actual colour to it. It's best used on the inner portion of the lid with darker colours on the outer portion of the lid, or used on the tearduct for a lil pop of colour, but still light enough to actually highlight the tearduct.

Ah, that explains it. I imagine the duochrome isn't very apparent in the pan and only shows when swatched. That's probably why I never noticed it.

I agree re: application - I only ever use mattes and satins as brow highlight and I wouldn't dream of using a duochrome *shudders*. Some people may be able to rock it, but I most certainly can't

I picked up one item from this collection yesterday. Naturally it was the hot pink mattene. I'm wearing it now!

So the one you like best is Nocturnal Instincts.

1. I got NI - it's like "My Lips But" more opaque and warmer/less blue. I would think a greyed lavender would be bluer and, well, greyer. To me NI looks more like a rosey mauve or a taupe mauve. But, no matter, I got to swatch it in-store, so i knew I would like it and it would be very very wearable for me.
2. I skipped SI because it's in the same family as Violetta, which i have and rarely wear. But now i can alter it with various other lip products.
3. I skipped NB because i don't wear bright pinks, even if they lean blue, as this does.

I used it as a brow bone colour in the past when I first got into makeup, boy I didn't know what I was doing then:p I also have seen people rocking shimmery highlights, but I can't do it if they are very very light like a white shimmery colour (Crystal Avalanche) or something like Vellum. I do like something like Urban Decay Virgin on the brow bone as long as I don't overdo it with shimmer on the rest of my eye.
Vellum does look nice as well on the edge of a blue or purple crease colour, because it makes it fade very nicely and gives it a pretty blue/purple glow.

Happy holidays to everyone. To all the lovely Specktraettes who made one of the hardest times in my life better, I can't thank you all enough, nor can I find the words to express my deepest feelings of gratitude. The kindness of people I've never even met in person was & is so overwhelming. You all deserve everything you wish for in life! Hugs to all. S~

I got my overnight order from Friday night today and I am so thrilled I got it so fast. Ordering during the holidays really has its advantages. I got 2 RIS, a replacement for me and one for my daughter. Her first MAC gloss... Hopefully she will stay out of my stash, lol Happy Holidays!

This is reminding me of a mom's makeup stash story - we all have one, I bet

For me, my mother had this super bright, sparkly peacock green eye shadow. I had to look at it and touch it and sneak samples as much as I could. When she'd wear it herself, I'd always get really excited, like it was a momentous occasion and as if I was wearing it right along with her. 'Must have been 7 yrs old.

To this day, I keep looking for a color just like this one. When I find it, it will be a glorious haul!!!

HUG YOUR MOMS!!!!

I've never tried vellum, but now I'm tempted! As for my Mom's makeup - she's only ever worn black eyeliner, so she'd have better luck raiding my makeup collection...even when I was 12!

My mom has never really worn makeup. She did before she met my dad but he didn't really care for it so she stopped mostly. I used to look through her stash in her bathroom in the early 80's. She was an Avon lady at that time too so it was mostly Avon. I actually have some Avon today as she was an Avon lady again till recently. Even now tho she hardly wears anything. She'd shake her head at my stash lol.

Mum had a Dior lippie called Tibet. It was a loud Barbie pink IIRC and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Grandma didn't approve and kept telling mum it made her face look like a baboon's backside.
