Unfortunately, it's not only l/s    MAC prices go up twice per year (though only once per product category), typically between $0.50 - $1.50. I usually stock up on essentials in early Januar and July before the price hike kicks in.

That's a very good point. I shall grab my basics soon. I can deal with a small increase. It's part of doing business, especially for such a high profile company. Louis Vuitton and Goyard mark all of their bags up each year by $30 - $100+. I can't see there actually being a $3 mark up on the lipsticks though. Especially since, as someone has mentioned, in the past 13 years they have only increased $1.50. I can probably deal with $16/lipstick and $17.50/special packaging. I won't enjoy it, but unfortunately it's not going to stop my addiction.

There was a time when Revlon was about where MAC is today, in terms of quality (at the time) and market.

I must say I do love Revlon's sll, really good stuff.

It doesn't say bronzer, it says bronze, as in the colour. But I'm sure people will use it as such. Just sharing what my source said, so who knows :dunno:

But they have almost 50% more lipstick than the regular formulas

It's actually almost the exact same amount.

I broke down and bought a Burberry matte lipstick for $30....hefty price tag compared to MAC but talk about luxury on your lips! There is a Tom Ford lippie I have my eye on. I just don't want to pay for it just yet lol. I bought one of his cream eye shadows for $40-something...heaven help me fight the urge of splurging on it again. It is like butter going on! Made me actually frown a little at my MAC paint pots

Right. They are NOT a luxury brand so they shouldn't try to start pricing themselves as if they were. Before you know it they'll be $20, then $22, then $25. I'm not expecting things to stay the same because I know prices go up, the cost of living, all of that. But will the prices go up while the brand stays the same?

Just be glad you're not here in Australia where MAC lippys are currently $36 - even if they go up to $18 in the US I'll still be buying them and getting them shipped here by a friend! A lot cheaper... think about it it's currently $72 for TWO permanent lipsticks ): Archies girls l/e were $40 EACH! ):

That's craxy.... Is there a large difference in income between here and the US? I've always wanted to understand the markup.

I honestly don't think so, atm I think AUD $50 is US $48 or something similar, and from what I understand the average salary is similar.
The key reason is importing charges ): Majority of the big companies don't have factories here so they're all made overseas and sent here ): It's ridiculous MAC lipsticks are $36, Blush is $42, e/s is $28. Even drugstore brands are pricey ($22 for Revlon lip butters, $30-40 on average for maybelline, revlon, rimmel etc foundations) it sucks!!! ):

Getting more excited about the bronze/coral blush thingie. Hope the pigmentation is good. Wish I could boycott the price hike, but I know it won't stop me from hauling the MAC goodies, they are still the best brand overall in the mid range IMHO. And still less expensive than Urban Decay and Smashbox which IMHO is the main competition. I am sorry but with the exception of very few products, mascara, and powder products, there is a huge difference in terms of quality so they will keep me hooked in. I will try to screen out dupes more carefully before snapping stuff up in the LE feeding frenzy though.

The price increase usually affects all countries, though the increase does vary from country to country. What was the last increase in the UK on lippies? 50 p?

Good point. Thanks for compiling that list! I have one Guerlain lipstick and it's pretty much my baby. I guess I can shell out a few more bucks for MAC...
