MAC only takes credit cards, from what i see.
A debit card can be used as a credit card as long as it has a MasterCard or Visa (and I think a few banks use Amex) thing on it. The only difference is that you can't spend more than your account actually has in it. There's no line of credit...in a way it's treated much like a prepaid credit card funded by your bank account balance.

Mine's got "The Exchange", Cirrus, Accel, Acculinks and Interac on it (CDN)..

nono I know what debit is, lol. I meant how do you set it up with MAC.
You don't "set it up". You use it the same way you do any credit card you would use. Put in your number on the front of the card. Put on the expiration date. Put in the 3 digit security code on the back of your card. Same process as a credit card would be.

I have called in telephone orders as well as placed online orders with Mac and my debit card works just fine. There is no setting up per se although my debit card info is saved on my Mac account but I sometimes switch it around and use another card for a particular purchase if I so desire. Just give Mac 'dem digits, they don't descriminate, lol. Edit billing info to add/delete payment info

Not sure if you're in the US or if you are able to use this but have you considered Bill Me Later? It's a Paypal company (I think they are now at least) but it works like a credit card for online only purchases with partner companies. You can use it with MAC...well technically you would be using Paypal with MAC but you can connect your BML account to your Paypal and use it as your funding source. I do this so I can use the promotions (6 months no payments, no interest...just in case I make really large purchases and I want to stretch out my payment) and because I prefer not to use my actual bank account info online if I can help it or my CC's. You could also try getting a prepaid card if it helps. Or if you're comfortable with it (and have one) use your checking account debit card. Sadly, it's getting to a point where you're going to need at minimum a debit card for most transactions. I guess that's better than being required to have a credit card but for some, easy access to their money is trouble lol
I'm not old enough to have a credit card of my own lol, only reason I don't. (I'm 18.. have to be 19 to have it without it being in someone else's name). Will be getting one in a few months but in the mean time...

Also, tried to set up a PayPal and evidently I'm too dense to figure it out. So I don't even have PayPal.

What country do you live in? In the U.S you have to be 18 to get credit though because of young age you may be denied. Is your card a debit card? Or just a savings account card? Like can you use your card to make purchases in stores? Edit: saw you're in Canada. Maybe yours works more like a savings account and its not an actual debit card with a checking account?

Oh god I am confused now, LOL. On the MAC site it says "select payment type", but my card is none of those... so I have no idea what to put.

and there are no 3 digits on the back of the card. There are 3 numbers underneath my card number, but I have no idea if that's a security code or what?

I can't even remember how to set up Paypal lol. I've had my account for so long. And I got my first credit card when they shouldn't have legally been able to give me one (I was 16 and on a college tour visit...that ended up being a huge issue with credit card companies being predators and giving cards to minors. I think I went in to the campus bookstore to get a t-shirt and they had a booth with reps pushing to give you a bunch of free stuff and sign you up for this "great card")

.... well considering I buy junk through it, I'm assuming it's not a savings card, especially since that's what I paid for... a debit card.

I think you need a visa or mastercard logo on your card. If not, you can try using paypal. I believe the 3 digits under your card number is the security code if there's nothing on the back of the card.

Yeah your card sounds more like an ATM/bank card versus a "debit" card that can be used like a CC. With a debit card (like I mean) you would be able to pay your bills, pay for gas at the pump...pretty much anything that would traditionally require a credit card to do. If you were in a store (say Wal-mart or whatever equivalent you might have) you would be able to swipe it at checkout and select either "debit" or "credit". If you picked debit you would need your pin. If you picked credit you would just sign the receipt or the screen (the money would hold but not immediately leave your account where a debit the money leaves the account almost immediately). I assume it works the same for you all.

Canadian mac doesn't take visa debit cards I tried mine and they said it was declined so I called and they said oh we don't take those

That was one of the annoying things with Canadian banking (I had to get a credit card). I had the same issue with the debit cards not being able to be used online whereas when I lived in europe I could - cause it was a "Visa" debit card. In Canada it's "Interac". They're starting to catch up with online shopping (

) and you can use them at select Interac accepted online shops....but yeah....

The only other alternative I can think of is buying one of those Visa prepaid gift cards.

I assume they take them over the phone because I used my Visa debit card to pay for my Nudes & Metallics order with MAC Canada. I had to because I couldn't use Paypal over the phone and I didn't have my CC on me. Didn't have any trouble with it in that instance

That's weird cause I was on the phone with them when they told me they don't take visa debit and this was just last week :/ I've used it on nordstroms site before though as a visa with no problem
