Hi all! Another forum newbie here:) I have a question for those of you that have tried the Dior Gel Coat. When I first got it, I was IN LOVE. But about halfway through the bottle, I started having issues. It's a thick formula to begin with, but it started to get even thicker and stickier and harder to apply. I would get bad drag marks from lack of even application, particularly on the sides of the nails. Now about 2/3 of the bottle done, it's virtually unusable. It's so sticky that I can't brush it across the nail. I just have to glob it on and try to even it out as much as possible. I always had some shrinkage, but now I am getting shrinkage of massive proportions (see photo). It's cracked a couple of times - over Illamasqua, if I remember correctly. The photo below is over YSL, but I've experienced shrinkage over Armani, Chanel and others. Has anyone else experienced this? Can you add thinner to it since it's gel? I'm debating whether to try it again or to try the non-gel topcoat (either Dior Abricot or the Dior Vernis topcoat). I do really like it when it behaves, but I can't justify the cost if it's only going to work over certain polishes and for half the bottle. It's ruining my manicures, which really makes me mad when I'm using expensive polishes! Any suggestions welcome, thanks!

I only used the gel top coat a few times, and it hasn't thicken. However, it causes shrinkage and I'm not pleased.

Try using a thinner, Seche Vite restorer I think it's called. I know some that used it on the Guerlain gel top coat without issues.

Thanks for the tip! I was a little wary of thinner because I didn't know how it would react with the gel formula, but that's reassuring that it worked with Guerlain. I'll see if I can find that Seche Vite restorer somewhere in town.

I was intrigued by Joy. It seems so subtle shade. Sometimes the shade looks fab (on somebody or swatched ) enough to make me want this and later I find it's not me.

The gel coat getting thicker is the same for the top coat. It may be from the weather I have, but that happens with all of my nail polish (base coats, top coats, regulars). I use thinner for all these and they were great to use after that. I only use thinners with the same first ingredients of the nail polish I'm trying to restore, since I'm not a chemist to know if what I'm adding will work or if it will ruin it. If it's very thick nail polish, you may need to mix it to help it out, for example with a toothpick (that happened to me only once, so them being like that is rare). I'm not sure if it works on the gel coat (I've been meaning to buy it, but I love Dior's top coat too much), but it won't hurt to try since you can't really use it anymore, right?

The gel coat shrinking your nail polish may be because of different formulas. Like I said, unless you know what the ingredients you're mixing are for, you may end up with some strange stuff. Some of dior's old nail polish is completely allergic to opi's top coat for example. It liquified Apparat and it took HOURS to dry. I'm not exaggerating, I was smudging things even an hour later. I tried again another day by letting it dry for a full night, then applied the top coat only to be liquified again and once more it took a really long time to dry (I gave after the first half an hour, just remade the colour without top coat). Again, I don't know about the gel top coat, but it may be a similar case since you used different brands on top of each other.

Another thing, you may need to let the polish dry for longer than you're used to, before applying the gel coat. I have to do this for a couple of old dior's nail polish, otherwise I get the top coat tinted. Tuxedo is quite the offender.

I love these! I'm most interested in the quints and the nail polishes but the lip products look nice too

Thank you! I feel like this looks like a couple of former Dior Spring collections combined, although the shades look pretty enough. I'm mad for the new Dior blushes, so I'll check those out regardless. I really like the look of Souveraine lipstick as well. It's quite a different sort of pink from what I have in my collection. I'm also eager to try the eye primer.

The coral blush looks really pretty, I'm sure it will be quite appreciated by many. :) The dark pink lip gloss as well, plus the rouge diors, and perhaps that purple shadow. The rest seems unassuming to me. Many would think of this collection to be quite boring.

Personally, I am attracted to the coral blush and the orange and the dark pink lipgloss. I do not wear blush, so I doubt I'll get it (and their permanent range is huge, so it would probably suit my needs if I ever get into those). The lipglosses is the same old story, I love their colours, they even complement me well sometimes, but I don't like the look. The dark pink one looks outrageous in a good way. I'll never, ever wear it. The orange one looks subdued though. Maybe. Maybe...

I am very, very interested in the primers and I will wait for performance reviews and inevitable comparisons to the usual cult products. Last time I went to the counter the assistant tried the face skinflash and I liked it as well. I've tried from other brands (including the benefit one), but I've always felt that my face would rebel into an oil slick in summer. The skinflash one did not give me those vibes. I am interested in the pore minimiser and the eye primer. I have no clue what the other one is for, perhaps another face primer?

A question regarding the lip glow, is it going to substitute the old one, or is it going to be a new shade? I might take a look at this, I've heard good reviews of the old one. It seems too expensive for a lip balm, BUT if this one gives a coral tint... yes, I am interested.

There were no preview of the rouge serums. :(

As usual, it's the nail polish that captivates me most though. I'll get the pastel blue. I'm a sucker for greens and blues after all. The orange one, is to see. If it's similar to Sunnies or Riviera, then it's a pass. Bloom will be be a pass for sure. Creoles, Pink Graffiti, Plaza, all shades in the same vein and I already own two of these. The light pink one... perhaps I'll finally buy a light pink nail polish (yes! I don't own the basic stuff! i am boring but i'm also nuts so i don't own light pink or beige np!), but it's to see as well.
