Wow, what a great resource for new and old members alike! I've moved this thread to a more appropriate forum and added a link in the Welcome Forum notepad for new users to hop right over. :)

But first I needed to look up what the word abbreviations actually was all about

U just don't know how much I appreciate this thread, THANK U SOOOOOO MUCH. I'm new to makeup and this site so when I began reading some of the forums I was a little intimidated by the lingo and abbreviations lol. Now that a few things have been cleared up I feel a lot better.

Compiling these in one place is genius!

Possible add, though it's not an acronym, is 'lemming' for a product one really, really covets and is usually DC/HTF and/or prohibitively price-y. Examples: "MAC Bad Fairy is a total lemming!" or "Julep Ciara is a close-enough dupe to MAC Formidable that it's a possible lemming killer."

That one confounded me a bit when I first started reading nail and beauty blogs and forums.

So.. what are the definitions and differences (however slight, if any) with:

NIB
BNIB
LNIB

tried to google the definitions and came up with nothing much except a funny forum post describing "lady parts"
lol.gif

BNIB is brandnew in box and I believe NIB means new in box, which should be the same thing. No idea what LNIB means, though.

So what's the common understanding to those?

The forum I mentioned described BNIB vs. LNIB as...:

" BNIB: I go to local starship, buy fake lady parts, never used it, try to sell it. Ad would be BNIB "
" LNIB: I go to local starship, buy fake lady parts, used it twice, decided lady parts didn't feel right, and sell them, but back in original box, sell as LNIB "

Agree/Disagree?

I get so confused with all these acronyms... lol

BNNB .. brand new, no box

if you believe that one, you deserve to be snookered

(but it does happen that one throws out the box.. lol)

Thanks for this - I have wondered about the Makeup Alley abbreviations for years, I knew I was a PPP but didn't know what it meant!

Thank you for posting this! I am just coming out of long time lurking and have a feeling I am going to be referring to this page quite a bit for awhile until I get the hang of things!

When can a new member edit their signature/profile? It's telling me I'm not allowed until I'm active in the forums (I've posted less than 10 times if that matters?)
