thank you to all the lovelies who have posted their pics! so first thing yesterday morning i went to Debenhams and was the first and only customer for the first 15 minutes, so i got to play around with the collection all by myself! :yahoo: got to try different lipstick/lipglass combos as well. i would've taken more pictures of swatches, but unfortunately my camera didn't capture the actual lighting that well at all. here's what i thought:
- for an NC40, both Delphic ED Bronzer and Refined Golden looked very similar on my skin. figured that since i already have AS and don't yet have a powder bronzer, i'd go for RG, which i did.
- i finally got my hands on EO and a back-up GotS!
- i do not like Siren Song and PMP. i'm sorry. they are lippies that aren't forgiving on flaky lips and therefore would be way too high-maintenance for me. i'm so glad i didn't cave in and buy them online before trying them out first. SS makes me look like a washed-out Zombie, and PMP made me look like a weird space alien. trying to define them more with the natural lip pencil made it worse!! i guess i could take them look better with a lipglass, but i'd rather have a lipstick that looks great on its own as well as with a gloss. otherwise what's the point of owning a colour that's mostly a miss?
- Peachstock looks nothing like the MAC swatch image (sorry if i'm sounding like Captain Obvious here). it's pretty much a pale beige rather than a creamy peach. to me it's basically SS in Lipglass form. it's not flattering. glad i didn't buy this online either, but i was pretty close!
- Water Deities also looked too frosty on me. i already have Nymphette which gives me a slight peachy shimmer, and does it well. WD doesn't, sadly. i've seen a lot of gorgeous EO/WD combo pics on here, but for me that combo looked too pale and, again, frosty. i got Seducing Sound instead, which looks really nice paired with EO.
- as difficult as it was, i skipped the EDES - i'm still building up my 2nd x15 eye palette, and have loads of Urban Decay palettes, so the EDES colours weren't that different compared to what i already have, and what is already out there in the permanent collections. texture-wise however, they're wonderful. i just can't justify the price for the amount you're getting, for colours that are very pretty but nothing unique.
this afternoon i went to another MAC store to try out SS, PMP, PS and WD again, in different store lighting. sadly the same still applies - i just ain't feeling them, y'all. Karen from Makeup & Beauty Blog is a similar skintone to me (it helps seeing as we're both Filipino!), so her swatches are super helpful. but
bloody hell she rocks every single one of those colours, inc. the ones that look awful on me. she's awesome but i hate her.
