I'm really not even surprised anymore at people's lack of filter/consideration. Everything revolves around social media nowadays, so people lack real social skills and face to face contact... and that means they never really have to face the consequences or the impact of their words
My daughter is 15 and is not allowed to have an email (other than a highly filtered one that lets me sign up up to six people she can get mail from with my approval) and she is not allowed on FB either. When she was in a pageant last year that was supposed to be friendly and encouraging, the leaders were mean to her b/c she didn't have FB or a smart phone.
She is happy w/o those things, but is sad that so many her age can not relate to others without a screen in front of their faces.
I didn't allow my son to have internet until he was out on his own after he was 17, To this day everyone who has had to interview him or work with him on jobs says that they can not believe how well he talks to people.
I didn't prevent them from being involved b/c I was being mean, I knew what was out there and wanted them to learn to get along in life WITHOUT it first. They are both thankful.
