The only thing I can think is that the samples you choose may not be in stock by the time it ships.

I think it happens when the samples and the product are coming from two different places (like two different fulfillment centers, or the product is coming from a store). I think this is a hiccup from a computerized system. What really hurts is that both boxes are so huge too--like for a pair of shoes. Really, it's so much crazier than it needs to be, and it seems sort of thoughtless and anti-green. I think Nordstrom started out being one of my favorite places to order from, but arggggghhhh stuff like this…. idk
