I'll be going to my local MAC tomorrow AM early to try to get
Dodgy Girl.
Then i have to rush off to catch the BART (a cross between a subway and an elevated train) to San Francisco, because the Balinese gamelan i play in is the "warm up act" for the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (one of the pieces by Benjamin Britten was inspired by Balinese music)! We play four shows - tomorrow's matinee, Fri & Sat nights, and Sun matinee. We play just one 15 minute piece each show, so we're alternating between two piece so we don't go too crazy.
Man, the acoustics in Davies Symphony Hall are amazing! (we had our tech rehearsal for 5 hours yesterday). Most of the time we play in places with lousy acoustics and even though we are loud enough we can't really hear each other, such as the rotunda in San Francisco City Hall which is at least 3 or 4 stories high and clad with marble - looks great, sounds atrocious to musicians.
Then no more rehearsals until we're in Bali. We play a show for the govt. on July 7, so we'll be rehearsing and not vacationing. I'm very excited. I'm not taking any of my limited edition MAC with me, though - i don't want to lose it or have it ruined by the hot humid weather
