I treat expired cosmetics the same way as expired food. I would not eat or drink anything that is expired so I'm not going to put anything that's expired around/near my mouth or on my face. Bacteria is bacteria regardless of where it comes from all of it is harmful and can cause severe reactions. This is also why cleaning your brushes is very important as well, makeup is fun and nice to have but it's still full of chemicals and you have to be careful.
I agree with everything! I'm particularly careful with the makeup I use on my eyes.

I just did a smell test - I own 9 boys and 3 full size lipsticks. Richard and Cary are the worst, followed by Beau and Pussycat. I think the first two are for the bin, with the second two I just got a hint of the bad smell. I keep them in a drawer and I can't sleep in a very warm room, so a window is open all year round and my blinds are always closed, meaning that even in the hottest summer days (lol), the temperature is not more than 15 degrees.  I agree with everything! I'm particularly careful with the makeup I use on my eyes.
Mine are just in my drawers think I have four or five full size lippys and about 4-5 boys and one lipshine Lipshine I have had for two maybe and that was my very first TF lip product :) smitten :)) Then I bought negligee last year from states and first time I had ordered from states this year The boys Julian I got selfridges the day before New Year's Eve :)) then the other boys I got from the USA And rose soleil also from USA and skinny dip from the uk x I think too :))) so mixture of both I didn't realise the CL had a expiry date Anyhow I really wanted to go London Tomorow go see the CL in person check out Louis v in selfridges too And maybe get my locks done :))) but prob stay home lol :) with mum

I don't store it in a cover. It looks fine after I wash it and let it dry.
Mine too---and it's pure white like it was when I purchased it. That brush looks stained.

Do you think any other tom ford products will be like that in future makes me wonder
My Orchid Haze quad and Wicked blush expired after about year, so I don't buy the quads or blushes anymore. Makeup does expire so it should be expected but throwing away more product than I'm using then its' not worth it and me personally will not use expired cosmetics. So when it comes to TF, I'm only going to buy what I know for sure I will use often so it won't end up being a waste.

How did you know that they have expired, what changed? I've never had a powder product go off (my oldest ones are from summer 2012), so I don't know what signs to look for.
That's the reason I stopped buying coloured mascaras - this spring/summer I was scared to use a pink Dior and a purple Chanel, which I bought the previous year, even though they looked as good as new. I've used each of them not more than 3 times.. So that's £50 in the bin.

Pussycat was my first TF lipstick, I bought it from HoF last November. Most of them are from Selfridges, the summer ones are from Harrods and two boys are from Nordstrom. What expiry date do the CL have? Mine just say 24 months after opening but I think that's valid for all lipsticks? How did you know that they have expired, what changed? I think mascaras should be discarded fairly regularly, probably every 3 to 6 months, the longest. Usually they get dry anyway. Powder products can last and last if they are handled carefully with clean brushes. Lipsticks all depend on the formula- some can turn quickly while others a pristine much longer. Glosses also depend on the formula. Just think, your mouth has germs and the lips are so close to them so those products are in contact with more potential things to spoil them. (Not trying to imply anyone is "dirty" we all just have germs.) Best to use and enjoy and not over buy if you don't think you will get enough use for how much you spend. I like some of those colored mascaras too and whatever I buy now I'm going to use a lot for the next few months. Then toss them and enjoy the next one.

I am very picky with mascara. I always ask for sample size products and choose them as a sample when offered with purchase. I probably throw them out about once a month, but they are all sample size. It would be great if TF was sold at sephora. I like to shop at sephora bc of the perks and free flash shipping. I also get NM's equivalent of flash shipping (free two day shipping) but the other perks aren't always comparable.

I agree with the back scratch scenario but the brand has to want to be sold there and be willing to allow them to take a percentage of the profits. I'm pretty sure TF didn't think he needed Sephora not to mention him having to pay them to sell his products there. He'd much rather give his money to high end retailers that he already has a relationship with since going back to his Gucci days. Initially he felt no purpose in his products needing to be sold at Sephora until CL made his debut not to mention his sales in as a whole might have gone down as well. So you have to do what you have to do to stay competitive in an already extremely competitive market. Back in the day Sephora use to sell a lot of high end brands but they backed out because Sephora kept increasing the percentage of which the brand had to pay to be sold there. It use to be that Sephora was indeed considered high end where as Ulta is where you would get your lesser known/cheaper brands. However the higher end the brand, the more percentage Sephora is going to charge and depending on the amount of products being sold it ends up not being worth it for the high end brand to be sold there. That is why Sephora launched it's own brand because it needs more profit as them going up on percentage rates does nothing but drive brands out of the store and they can't afford for that to happen. Back then the member perks use to be 1000% better than what they are now as well because they had the extra money to spend because of how well the profits were. One of brand marketers for Marc Jacobs told me Sephora offered a very great percentage if he chose to only sell exclusively to them, so that's what he did and I'm sure they offered TF a good percentage as well. Sephora needs the business because they haven't done well since they changed CEOs so hopefully they'll get back to where they were because it's a very strong market now but the business aspect has to be done right or else it will still fail. I miss the old Sephora days and only shop during my birthday month to get my free gift because I get better incentives shopping at department stores.
Thanks for the info and awesome conversation!

I work on this stuff (viruses, bacteria), and I agree. I generally only use sample size mascara, and given what I'm learning about the TF lip formulas maybe spoiling quickly, makes me love the boys even more (I know they spoil, too, but I will use more of them faster and the price per ounce use to be a little better anyway). I'll still pick up big ones I NEED (hello So Vain), but not go as crazy.

With powder products I look for texture changes and color vibrancy, if the shades turn dull looking and are not vibrant like before and become really dusty/powdery. Products should remain the same consistency as when you first buy them and when they change texture, smell, consistency, they have turned bad. As someone else stated clean brushes are a must and can turn products quickly but also bad cosmetics can ruin your brushes, so it goes both ways. Regardless of the products/brand, I throw it out after 2 years/24 months. I'm done with my mascara after 6 months which it's usually gone by then anyway because I wear the same mascara everyday. I love color mascara but decided to stop buying it because I end up having to throw it away before getting good use out of it, the same with lip gloss. I use to buy Chanel lip gloss all the time but ended up having to throw it out because I wasn't going to use it after 2 yrs. So I don't buy lip gloss much anymore and any products I do buy I make sure I love it and will use it regularly.

Thank you. I think I've only had such problem with the MACxPedro Laurenco blush, which I used to wear almost every day, but I scraped off the top layer and it's fine again. I started buying more makeup almost 3 years ago and I haven't thrown away anything, except from foundations, mascaras and eyeliners (I'm not a fan of glosses). I don't see why, when they are fine, even if the PAO has passed. But, of course, this is a decision everyone should make for themselves.

If the products are fine then it probably won't be too much of an issue but I absolutely would not use any product after it has turned.

Hey y'all!!! I have a quick question, has the foundation stick in Alabaster been discontinued? I was just looking to buy another stick and I can't find it anywhere online. I'm getting worried, it's my most perfect shade and seriously my HG. I will probably cry if it's gone. I've been out of the makeup scene for a really long time so I'm not so up to date. Thanks a bunch!
