I use Johnson's baby shampoo for washing brushes. I find it gets foundation out very well. Still don't wash my brushes as often as I should though!

Before I started using solid cleansers I used to use Parian Spirits or Cinema Secrets. Also, an old thing I used to do was loosen foundations with olive oil before a thorough wash. Hope you find something that works.

Ooohh. I've heard about the olive oil. I'll try that today!

What are you ladies loving for cleaning makeup brushes? I use longwear foundation and its super stubborn to get out of my brushes. Which means I just keep buying new ones to avoid the mental task of getting the others cleaned lol. I won't tell you how many brushes are in my brush basket waiting to be cleaned *facepalm*

I thought of Guerlain too when you asked but wasn't sure if the light/medium shades were also red.

shades 00 , 02 , 04 are more pink/red
while 01, 03 are more yellow / orange

Ok so I tried a mixture of two parts dawn, one part olive oil and that worked really well. For some of the stubborn ones and the really dense brushes I still had to go over them but that concoction did a great job. I'll try some of the others next wash cycle.

it is absolutely not spot brush cleanser. a lot of people think that.

it foams up ! i pour a little bit in my hand swirl the brush let it foam up and then rinse out. i've been using it for all of my brushes for the past 10 years and will never use anything else

I've been using the MAC brush cleanser for a few years. I apply the cleanser to a paper towel and then clean the brush. It's the way one of the MAC make-up artists told me to use it and is basically how they describe it on the Mac website. It seems to get all the stubborn foundation, concealer and pigment off of my brushes.

Oooohh thanks Monsy. Yeah the description is what threw me off in the past.

I am sure artist use it like a spot cleanser especially when quickly needed the same brush but i would never leave something on the brush that foams up. it is expensive but the way i see it if i use 100$ brush i am not going to use something on it that will ruin it that is too aggressive (like dawn. would you put dawn on your hair?)

I had no idea the Mac cleanser foamed until I read it in Monsy's post. I've used it on expensive brushes and not so expensive brushes with great results....gonna stick with what I know and like but it's great to know all the other options out there.

I use Dawn Ultra and have no problems getting it to rinse out completely. Nor have I had an issue with residue. As I told [MENTION=96587]Shars[/MENTION], I use a tiny amount. I put just enough on a pre-rinsed brush to work/clean out product. I rinse thoroughly, towel dry and place in brush guards.

I also want to note, none of my brushes have sustained any damage from use - handles, ferrules or bristles - synthetic or natural.

I think if you use too much, wash your brushes too often, or leave a detergent sitting in a brush, etc. there could be problems. For me nada.

I have no opinion on the matter. Can't use brushes for foundation application myself, so no need for heavy duty cleaning.

I agree. Everybody's mileage varies. From my understanding the reason why the olive oil is mixed with the liquid soap is to recondition while the liquid soap breaks down the grease and the bacteria from the product build up. I've seen a lot of pro artists use it that way and mention that they use that combination often. I just never tried it. I have used a lot of cleansers recommended for brushes and nothing so far has pulled out foundation out of dense brushes like that combo. I actually found my brushes felt way more conditioned than they usually do so I'm happy about that. I made sure to use hot water and not cold water before dipping into the soap as that would just make the product harder to come out and I found I did not have to use very much at all. Couple passes on my Sigma spa mat and we were good to go after rinsing. Most of the brushes I use with liquid foundation are synthetic and not costly so I'm truly not worried about any damage. For my natural hair brushes I mainly use those with powders. I'm usually fine washing those with the Beauty Blender bar soap but I did wash all my brushes with Dawn and olive oil this time to test and they honestly felt fine. I'll know for sure when I start to use them over the next few weeks but I don't expect any change in performance or any oil streaks on my face haha!

Well I hope Dawn rinses because we've been using it forever to wash the utensils we eat with. Rather Dawn on my skin than in my belly
