Heeeyyyy, happy new year all! So literally right before the holidays (Dec 15th to be exact), I finally ordered the Becca Backlight Priming Filter... then it must have been right after I saw she was coming out with the new one. I've never opened it, should I exchange for the new new? Anyone use both? I like an illuminating primer to wear under my EL DW Foundation and right now I'm using the Tarte Clean Slate Flawless which is okay but I must be searching for something it doesn't do. I love the EL Illuminating one, but at the time I wanted to use my Sephora gc and they didn't have it. So basically I want something radiant to wear under the matte foundation. Are the Backlight and First Light just totally different where you "need" both? I know the Backlight has shimmer that some people talk about. I think most illuminating ones do, that's the point. Anywho, I'm taking suggestions, thanks! (I've read the few reviews on Sephora for First Light and it sounds good).

I had, loved, and almost repurchased Backlight. Honestly just forgot to use my 20% off Ulta. Then I heard about First Light, so I waited.

First Light still has some shimmer to it but not as much. It's a lot more liquid. It smells a little like fruit loops, so I'm guessing that lemongrass/artificial lemongrass scent. It felt nice on, similarly light as BL. The violet doesn't show. My makeup is holding up well...first use today. It's subtle. More subtle than BL for illuminating. The model I saw was a WOC, and the difference was notable, so it could be something that works more noticeably on darker skin tones (or just misleading promos, lol). I will try to swatch comparison later. I also update my thoughts as I wear it more and with other foundations. Today is the MAC waterproof Prolongwear in the tube that launched last year.
So far, I would say get a sample or finish what you have first because, for me, there's not a huge reason to have both.

Not sure how useful these will be because of lighting and how heavily I swatched stuff. I needed it heavy to show differences...

I like it a lot, especially in summer when I don't want things to budge. It is seriously waterproof. It's also like a magic eraser for your skin. You need very very little or it could look too heavy. It's pretty matte, smooth finish. The colors are tricky. It runs much lighter by half a shade or a shade, so I would definitely recommend getting samples first. I usually wear the lightest shade in most ranges, and while that's true here, the number is higher for me than other MAC foundations, and it can be too light depending on how much sun I get. Sometimes I warm it up with Chanel Les Beiges All Over. It seems to be a you're gonna love it or hate it based on reviews I've read.

I just have to say something about the shade range for that foundation. It doesn't really run that lighter it just appears at first. give it couple of minutes when it sets it gets darker so be careful when buying. btw great foundation!

Yeah, I think body chemistry plays into it. Most reviews were unhappy because of shade issues and not the product itself. It doesn't oxidize on me at all, so for me, it does run light. :shrugs: My advice for people near counters is to grab samples. Mine was kind enough to give me pots of the four lightest shades.

i kind of hate myself for starting down the Viseart path. I bought Cashmere, which was then followed by Minx, then I got a gift certificate from my sister in law and uses it to Bijou Royale... It feels like I just opened a very dangerous door.

I love my Viseart Minx palette for several reasons...obviously the quality and I actually use all the colors of that selection, but more so because I could put the pans into a custom palette. I have not sprung for a more expensive palette because I know I will not use all the colors in each. So I say just be really selective in what you spring for...you will save money that way!

I've played with: Dark Matte, Neutral matte, Sultry Muse, Bridal Satin, Editorial Brights, Bijou Royal, and the sculpting/highlight palette. I loved them all except for Sultry Muse and I have not heard good things about the Cool Matte. I did expect the Sculpting palette to be a little bit more neutral than what it is, but I'm still going to keep it.
I was pretty impressed with Bijou, and Bridal. I think you can find a way to use all of the colors in these palettes depending on the look you are going for at the time. So I think they are worth it and I can see why they are an artists dream palette. Very portable and they pack a punch. The only thing missing is the wild/fun colors you can find in Urban Decay, Mac and MUFE. But once you've played with them it easy to see where you can fill in the holes. Plus you can mix the colors.
I also saw that NYX has a similar looking palette I'd like to try for kicks and giggles.





But they are 12 shadows at .84oz for $80. That's $6 a shadow and .07 oz each.
The theory palettes are 6shadows for $45 and .13oz of product each for $7.50 (WHAAAAAT?!)
Palette Petit Pro is 8 shadows @ $30 and .208oz of product. So $4.50 each and .026oz each.
The Mario Palette by ABH $45 for 12 shadows at .02oz each.
Mac shadows are .04oz and will be $6 or $13
Mac X15 palette $65 and .68oz, which is $4.33 for .045oz
MUFE singles $22 for .07oz each ( I didn't factor in the cost of buying 3 with a palette).


I wouldn't be a proper enabler if I didn't break them down.

They also have a eyebrow palette. I want to see how it compares to the ABH eyebrow palette

I have the Viseart Neutral Matte, Sultry Muse, and Paris Nudes. Although the quality is there (the mattes more so than the shimmers) I find that I rarely reach for these. The matte palette is the only one you can use as a stand alone palette (IMO). With the shimmery palettes, you'll need to use another palette for matte crease or brow colors.

My biggest challenge with those palettes is I look at them and can't put a look together. All I see are 12 eyeshadow. Some brands, UD in particular, arrange colors in a way that makes it easier to put a look together.

I agree, I have the same issues with Paris nudes. I'd be willing to try another but haven't gotten around to it.

Yeah...I do like the colors in this Viseart Petit PRO palette! They would coordinate with what I already have in my custom palette assortment. Like @Prettypackages says...a nice way to not break the bank to give the brand a try. OOS on Sephora right now, but I did add it to my list!

I have the Viseart Neutral Matte. I take this palette with me every time I travel. It complements what ever other shadows or palette I decide to carry. My favorite shadows are the MUFE Artist shadows but they aren't exactly travel friendly. Now if the idea of $80 for 12 shadows seems extreme I would like to recommend the Sonia Kashuk Eye Couture Eye Palette in Eye On Neutral 02. The colors are similar and I actually replaced this palette with the Viseart one. The biggest difference is the Sonia Kashuk palette is dustier than the Viseart.
I have the Neutral Matte, Dark Matte, Bijoux Royal and the Theory palette in Minx. I currently would like to have the Warm Mattes and the Petite Pro. However keep in mind after lipsticks my favorite makeup product are eyeshadows.

I was going to pass because I'm trying to low buy most things and use what I have. Just looking at the pic, I was sure I had dupes for everything, but based off T...I have 2, one of which I dislike the formula of and will be selling/giving away shortly. So yeah, I will pick this up on the restock as well.

@GreenEyedAllie too! LOL! I am too ladies! I spent waaaaay more money than I truly intended ...

In fact, on my breaks this week I am writing my 2016 review/reflection for the 2016 thread and my plan of action for 2017 thread..both are still "coming soon"...coz I write frickin' novels...lol

Luckily, I am not feeling the need to spend on anything right now...probably because I am taking the time to review my stash (actually looking at everything I have, how I am using it, quality of stuffs, FOTD & Date Night makeup results, etc.) and writing a plan of action based on the review.
