Argh No Buy Kick

Right, so after dropping 180 on Style black I want to go on a NO BUY kick for makeup until Christmas. Use up all of my hair product, moisturizer etc before buying more. It seems to have gotten really out of hand lately, I'm not going into debt but I definitely could be saving hundreds if not thousands of dollars the past couple of months that I've thrown towards makeup.

I want to get one of those black chanel lipsticks and translucent set powder and then done. Finito. This goes for etsy and clothes too.

Anyone who wants to join me is free to do so-even if no one else reads or posts I'll try to use this to keep myself accountable.

I have thousands of dollars of stuff I'll never use up. Need to find a hobby that isn't shopping!

I'm definitely frightened of some of the products I have purchased in multiples simply because I have so many products that I can't find them. I've actually spent this last week organizing all my stuff I want to use up and throwing out expired things.

I also kinda went nuts these last 2 months because I finished paying off my car... so I was like "hmm no car payment what am I going to do with this budgeted money every month? Oh I know, buy stuff I've been wanting!" Haha, that joy has ended and now everytime I get the urge to shop I have to ask myself "why am I going shopping? What am I trying to get out of it?" and I always tell myself either "to look good for blah blah blah" or "for enjoyment". So I figured out what I can do... everytime I want to go shopping I try to go work out... I figure it meets both my needs... and I easily spend a good hour or two shopping why can't I spend it bettering myself? It's funny how I'll find time to shop to cover all my trouble spots, but not time to work out to work on my trouble spots. So, I'm trying to change that for myself.

I can't go on no buy for make up with Halloween and my bday coming up, but good luck with yours =)

Ugh! I know what you mean. When I've had a bad day at work sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane is knowing that I'm stopping by the store on the way home for a little retail therapy. I'm trying to channel that now into something more productive for me that is till a mood booster which is why I'm trying the gym instead =/ It just doesn't sound as appealing yet.

I think the most disappointing thing for me is, sometimes what I buy disappoints me later and I regret taking up room for it, not using it, and having spent money on it. Then because I spent money on it I have a hard time getting rid of it. That's why I'm trying to be better and research a lot before I impulse buy... especially cosmetics and hygienic products... those are usually so affordable that I'll take anything home to "try it out", but now I have tons of it and a lot of it doesn't even work for me.

i used to do this all the time years ago! i'd randomly buy stuff that i thought was cool looking or sometimes just because it was there. and half of it was utter crap. now i research things like i'm writing an essay on them!

I have tried no buys....My No buys make me want to buy more...it's like reverse psychology ....So I am gonna try to buy only select items from the next few collections that are unique and really special.....I went ape crazy on SB but I have been super concervative on all the collections before this one....I have only gotten 3-4 items on the others...if I can stick to my 2-4 items per collection that will help me sooo much....I think I have skipped maybe 5 collections totally this year that is BIG for me

I totally get how you feel! I spent a lot yesterday and now it's the morning after and I'm like "blehhhhh"

I am sending in my pro card app today, so I am going to try to have a no buy kick until I get my card because there's nothing I want that can't wait a month, or so I figure...

I am doing exactly what Tish is, I buy a couple of things that I really want. I skip most MAC collections anyway, but after style black I will probably not get anything from MAC except if I run out of something until Christmas. When I am on the edge about buying something, I look at a product and ask myself, "Am I going to finish this?". If the answer is yes, then I will get it. This is how I budget lol!

Sooo

While awaiting my style black order online I went to the mall and picked up

The big AND small duo fibres
(does anyone else have an issue with the small shedding for foundation? For a $$$ brush it seems it shouldn't)

The HD skin and body foundation and the mineralize natural.

That's 350 bucks in MAC this week total

AND the Chanel LE in Hysteria, coz it's black purple. 41 CAD. F me

I really try and avoid posting haul pictures, as I feel it's make up porn and it enables others and myself to buy more than we should. Maybe I should just avoid that forum completely.

It's not like I can't afford it , I can-it's just I wish that I could just hang on to my money and have it in the bank rather than spending it. It feeds into the stereotype my ex has about women being bad with money!

Yes, I skipped most collections this year (my HD foundation I don't count as a 'collection) but 3-4 items is still over 100 or so worth of stuff for those that pay full retail.

i'm on a "no spend" till Oct 1st, after I spent far too much at the airport before holiday. Very nearly crumbled and treated myself to see sheer l/s today. the thing is I spend my time making lists of things I'm going to buy it'll probably end up the same ,oh well!

Yeah, I think that Halloween would do me in. I am interested in doing a no buy streak and I can usually manage during winter since I'm not a fan of most LE winter products. For the most part, I try to only permit myself to buy certain things like: I am looking for X,Y, and Z in a pigment and will buy it if and only if it matches those expectations. I find that I'm so picky, I end up not buying anything or only spending money when I know it's the right thing and it seems worth the wait.

I'm not necessarily on a no buy, but only because I'm not telling myself that I can't have anything. I'm just telling myself that I don't need anything (because let's be honest, I'm sure most of us don't!)... if I run across something LE or it's the best sale ever, that's one thing, but otherwise I have better ways I can spend my money right now.

So I've been on a no-buy since the end of July, and I'm trying to keep it that way till Christmas. I'm just a poor college student, and I'm looking for a job, so I really should be saving, not spending. So far it's been going okay...been too busy with school to think about buying. Even if I do happen to land a job this fall, I really don't need to spend money on makeup, as I have enough.

So here I am back at my thread again, I've been VERY bad. Like spending 200 USD on nail polish. (damn you, head2toebeauty & transdesign). I also bought the brush kit for eyes from the LE xmas stuff, as well as the smoke and mirrors pallette. I hate the finish on the eyeshadows for that pallette, they don't wear well at ALL . Really I need to wait until Karlasugar finishes swatching them before I go but I'm always afraid I'll miss out!!

I also got the Dior amberlights bronzer and word of mouth from all cosmetics, since I need a refill of word of mouth (perfect day neutrals)

Mostly I bite my nails, so whenever I can get them to grow out I usually buy a lot of nail polish to celebrate!

Mostly I shop when I'm bored at work. Etsy isn't so bad because I tend not to buy anything much over 20 bucks but man I need to get a handle on this !

My worst habit is reading blogs then ordering stuff they review. It's like porn for me, very very bad. Especially the nail polish blogs

I've been on a no buy kick (mostly) for about two years now. I'm still buying essentials that I use up, but not much else. It's completely changed the way I think about buying makeup. Every once in a while I'll treat myself if I notice a hole in my collection that I think I would use, but a big part of this has been to ignore the hype. Which means there is a huge part of this site that I haven't frequented for two years plus.

Do you feel the haulage and storage forums induce spending? I always seem to buy stuff after looking at them, it's like I must avoid them or resist temptation

^Yes. If I know what is coming up, I want it. :p

I just decided at one point that if I couldn't come up with the need for something based on a hole in my collection (for example, doing a look and thinking damn I could really use a *insert colour* eyeshadow for this) that I noticed more than once... Then I didn't really need it. I don't even want to think about how much money I've saved by doing this.
