Birth Control

ive been on many birth control methods [except depo, implants, and other less common forms.] and it IS true that the lower hormonal pills have a less chance of preventing pregnancy, BUT that is EXTREMELY rare! my mother works for kaiser in the OBGYN dept. so i know more than the usual girl!

you shouldnt be too worried about that. the depo shot does make most girls gain around 20 lbs of weight [on avg... not everyone does tho]. so hope that helps!

P.S. to the girls who havent had the depo shot before...
if you want to take my advice into consideration...

consider the following before deciding to choose the depo shot as ur form of bc.

the depo shot is designed to release itself into the blood stream so that it will last for 3 months. knowing this... PLEASE acknowledge the fact that there IS a POSSIBILITY that you could be allergic to it, and that this allergen will be in ur blood stream for 3 months. not everyone reacts the same way if allergic, but some of the responses are hemorraging for 3 months, severe cramps/ nauses for 3 months, or it can even be fatal.

just a lil word of mouth for those that dont already know.

dont be too scared either, you should discuss your bc with ur doctor before deciding, and he/she should be able to tell whether depo is right for you or not.

and forgive me for sounding like a know it all... but there have been girls who have died from the depo shot, and i think we should all be aware of the risks!

have a good one girls!

just remember if you are on the pill and get say a bladder infection and you take antibiotics to get rid of the bladder infection. The pill will not work.

I am really really considering IUD
does anyone have it?
do u like it?
is it comfortable?

I take my pills everyday every morning,
but still I worry and get scared to be pregnant
too soon, my son is 9 months now.

I get HORRIBLE mood swings
and I think it might be the pill..
I cry for no reason,
then I feel happy
then I feel like I wanna tear something
apart..
I get horrible cramps
I dunno!!

I've been on Birth Control pills since I was 12, I was originally put on them because of an illness I have called Endometriosis and it was to regulate and Help with my endo pain during periods, I've been on the same pill from when I was 12 to now (im 19). A few months ago I tryed Yasmin as I was having a bit of breakthrough bleeding but I really didn't like Yasmin I noticed quite a few side effects, So back to my old pill I went. I swear by Monofeme 28, I can't say I've had any side effects from it, except maybe a bit of Pigmentation on my arms, I can't say I've even gained alot of weight, I usually have issues with loosing to much weight though because of my illness. It's definately a Great birth control though, I've never had any issues even when I've missed alot of pills in a row, which is a plus. I can't stand using condoms.

Im starting to get worried that I've been on the pill too long, and that I may have problems getting pregnant when I want to.

I took OTC-LO and then Ortho Evra to regulate my periods and had bad side effects. I had massive bleeding during my period with both of them, much more than usual.

I have a bleeding disorder (von Willebrand disease, type III) and it's usually under control except for occaisional episodes. But when I took bc I was bleeding much more than usual, the point of hospitalization after my second month on OTC-LO.

I don't take birth control now.

So, I was on OTC-Lo for about a year, and then I switched to NuvaRing for a year, and loved it.

Now, I have an appointment, and I'm going to see if I can get the Implanon implant. It lasts for 3 years, and seems to be really effective with low side effects. I think I'll like it, as I'm a lazy girl that just doesn't want to be fussed, period.

Anyone have any experience?

I'm on the Implanon now, it's very weird...make sure you look at all the side effects because I'm experiencing some of them now...especially mood swings lol. Yeah it's nice not being able to remember...but with the irregular bleeding and other things...might be worth it to talk to your doctor about before taking the plunge.

i've always been on the pill and i've never had a problem with it i've been on it for 3 years now i tried the generic ones but i've been on OTC-Lo for a year and a half? and it's great. i haven't gained weight with any of the birth controls i've tried but like someone said previously, you HAVE to take it at the same time everyday. you can't take one in the morning and the next day at night that's how the effectiveness rate goes down! which may be why your friend got pregnant

I've used condoms, OTC, OTC-Lo, and Depo. I would say I have a latex allergy because bad things happened when I used condoms, but I don't have that reaction anywhere else? OTC was fine, but I was using it while I was also taking anti-depressants and I'm pretty sure it was giving me mood swings. Depo sucked. Hard core. Random bleeding at any time. For nine months. (Yeah that's how long I was on it) Killed my sex drive, made sex very painful, blah blah blah. I'm on OTC-Lo right now and it's not bad. I set my cell phone alarm to remind me to take it, so I'm always within about 10 minutes. My biggest issues with it are one: I take a pill everyday and have sex with my boyfriend every couple months because he lives so far away. I think that sucks. Two: I don't want to be on hormonal birth control for a long time. So I'm thinking about switching to an IUD.

2 years later...I'm still on OTC-Lo, it's working just fine, obviously, as I have yet to get pregnant (knock on wood).. And I'll admit, I've been bad. I don't take it at the same time everyday; I come home at different times every night and I don't like carrying it with me because I never carry the same handbag, and I think it's a tad tacky to take BC pills in public. Right now I'm being very careful because i had an operation and my medication clearly warned that it could alter the effects of birth control pills, not that I've been able to have sex, but the one time we tried, he wore a condom.

Again...trial and error.

I've tried every single form of hormonal birth control out there by now, I think. I got pregnant on the pill, the patch adhesive irritated my sensitive skin, the nuvaring caused too many awkward foreplay situations, and I was one of the "lucky" ones who bled for 9 months straight on depo.... you get the idea. Right now I'm on Implanon, and have been for about 8 months. I really like it - I don't have to remember to take anything (for 3 years!) and I haven't noticed any more mood swings/side effects than other hormonal bc I've tried. The only thing is the irregular periods, but usually it's skipping periods rather than breakthrough bleeding, so I'm fine with that as long as I remember not to panic if my period doesn't come!

I know the idea of an implant scares a lot of people, but the insertion process was so quick and painless - it took 30 seconds, seriously. I totally reccommend it.

The main 2 reasons why I chose to go for the pills because of birth control and I'm suffering from severe cramp every month. My gynae prescribed me Cezarette and it was my second one in a year because we found out I couldn't take the normal pills because they caused breakouts and spotting on me. Even with the mini pills, I got irregular bleeding in between period. We had ultrasound, scan, etc to make sure it's not caused by other things. I stopped taking pills completely early this year and my body's to normal again.

I know you said you didn't have any breakthrough periods, but was your period longer than usually in the first couple months. It's getting really annoying to me...I might call the doctor tomorrow and ask if I can get on the pill (sounds weird but I googled and saw that doctors have been doing it) to try to regulate the bleeding. Cause I'm thinking it might be a hereditary thing since my mom used to have the same problem.

Thats what DF and I do as well....I have tried three different BC pills and have had to get off of them each within a month of starting because of weird reactions I had to them...Condoms are the way to go for us.

I highly reccomend that no one use the depo shot!
I used this and gained 40 pounds within only two months, i was horrified
i stopped taking it but it takes up to 6 months to get completely out of your system. It has taken quite the tole on my body/life , as Im still struggling to get rid of the weight i put it on from it. After i went off of it i went onto alesse, and now im switching to yasmin, as i hear this is the one best known for the least amount of weight gain and is supposed to help with acne, which is something i also have a problem with, i hope this pill helps me with both.

I forgot what the hell I'm on.I've had so much trouble with finding the right birth control for me.I know all the stuff has made me gain weight, sadly.

I missed two days of my birth control and I've been 'spotting/bleeding' for over a month now,and the nurse tells me that's normal?

I was on Yasmin.. And was having chest pains.. So I stopped.. And I got pregnant.. And don't judge me, but I didn't have the baby.. I regret it a whole lot now.. I have too much issues with that.. Then I started back to take it and everything is fine.. I never really had acne, so I can't say if that helped.. But it did make my boobs bigger.. Like.. They're spilling out of my old bras and stuff now.. My only problem is taking it on time.. I have an alarm set on my phone though.. And I always thought I'd get shorter periods.. But they last for a week.. Longer than when I wasn't on the pill itself..

totally agree. im curently on yasmin, but not very happy with it (weight loss is a no go, no matter how hard i try!), but before that i had tried five different types of pills, which just did not simply work!

each to their own, but it would be so much easier if we just had a switch!
