My kitties only pee outside the litter when they have bladder issues.

But you said he has hip dysplasia --- could he be having trouble getting into his litter? Maybe it hurts too much to get in?

As for the hair pulling, it's probably in response to the pain and discomfort. Kind of like when a human is upset and says "I'm going to pull all my hair out!" He's having the same kind of stress reaction to the pain.

My cats pee on things like shoes, plastic bags on the floor, socks on floor etc when the litter box is not kept sparkling, so that's essentially every day or every other day.

Once you get the smell of cat pee in your nose, combined with the fact that you can't really trust yer kitty anymore you seem to smell it everywhere, I hear you on that!

Your vet will be able to determine if there is a medical condition (ie another bladder infection) but what are you going to do if this continues?

Good idea! How big is the lip on your litter box??

one of my kittes will pee on random things like shoes, towls that are on the floor if her litter box is even slightly messy! i got to work once and realised that she'd peed in my freaking shoes! i thought they were damp from walking in the rain!!!
