Nice method! This is probably the easiest method I've seen. Good job

I usually get my magnetic sheets from a craft store (Michaels). Just put them on and use an exacto knife to cut around it.

I am the idiot of the year.....I got carried away and tried to depot a creme blush......I thought if I only left it for a second it would just loosen up the glue. I forgot about it and needless to say it melted and I lost half of it, but the good news is that the part I saved looks like a brand new cremeblush!!! So the moral of the story is, have fun depotting, but don't get stupid!

I did this this morning, my first time depotting Mac and it was so quick and easy! Clean, safe quick and easy, there's no need to do it any other way now

Has anyone who has tried this method ever broken one of their e/s? Also, where do you buy those magnets from??

You buy them at a MAC freestanding store.

I finally did it!!!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have been thinking about depotting for quite some time now...but have been really scared of ruining my shadows. Well, I bit the bullet and depotted 30 eyeshadows tonight! It took me about 2 hours from start to finish. I did it 'cause I was running out of space and also because I wanted to be a little more organized. BTW, I did have one casualty...my Blu-Noir, it just busted.

OH MY GOSH! this is so easy! I've always been scared to depot my shadows, but it really works so easily! my straightner only goes up to 190 degrees so I had to wait prolly a lil longer than everyone else who's replied in here, but it really worked without any mess!

you can buy them @ MAC PRO stores and i believe (but i'm not sure) freestanding stores. you can order empty 4-pan or 15-pan e/s palettes from www.macpro.com or have someone CP you one.

you can also buy the 4-pan covergirl palettes which are slightly larger (by like, 1mm or two lol - so it's not a lot!) then the MAC palettes but they still fit MAC / Milani / UD etc. eyeshadows. i find the covergirl palettes @ walmart so try there.

i use a cheap $20 con-air straightener that's only about a 1/3 wide compared to normal straighteners, and it's just wide enough to fit an e/s on top of it. mine doesn't use degree settings but it has number settings + a turbo setting so i placed it on 25 (the highest) + on the turbo setting. it took me about 10-15 minutes to depot my swish eyeshadow (which broke - not from depotting...i dropped it. i scraped out the swish product and put it in a jar and made it into "swish pigment" - so basically, i was depotting an empty pan. i'm planning on pressing swish back into it's pot) but when i finally got the pan free, i realized that there was *A LOT* of glue on the bottom.

so i guess it depends on how well the pans are glued into the pot.

In the pics, the e/s pot is laying directly underneath the flatiron unprotected (the parchment paper is sitting underneath the insert). My question is, wouldn't the e/s in the unprotected pan be damaged by the heat of the flatiron? Could somebody who's tried this method educate me? I've never depotted and I'd like to try this method but am unsure

about the e/s product being damaged by the heat. Thanks.
